    Delay on exit?

I am trying to replicate the problem, but -as usual - when you take the car to the garage, it works fine... Although I face this problem daily, it appears to be random... Now that I have Debut up and recording, it doesn't occur! It is not project-related, since I 've had it randomly more or less in all of my projects. Needless to say, I am very frustrated that I cannot replicate it at the time....

    Delay on exit?

Dear Borate, It is possible that it is a hardware issue of my PC. There is a fresh windows 10 64bit installation, AMD FX-6350 6-core processor at 3.9GHz, 8GB DDR3 RAM and AMD RX-560 4GB graphics. I also have some issues with a "clicking" noise at clip junctions, which was also not reproduced by NCH tech personnel. I cannot exclude that all these are local issues of mine. I will make a video of the problem... Regards, Takis

    Delay on exit?

Dear Nat and friends, Unfortunately, as Dangerfreak confirmed above, it happens... At least several times. I am running on windows 10, VP version 8.06. The discard/cancel confirmation window comes up immediately, but when I select "discard", it takes several seconds to close. In the meantime, as reported above, the playing clip continues to sound. I also noticed that I often get the discard/cancel window, even if I have no actual changes. As a matter of fact, the only time that it does not appear is after an immediate save... But this is not a big issue. However, the exit delay is an issue, since -at least to me- it takes several seconds!

    Delay on exit?

Does anybody else have a significant program delay, when exiting while the timeline is still playing? I understand that it is NOT a good practice to exit while previewing the timeline, but I cannot help doing it... Whether I need to record, or to load another project, or simply just exit, I shut down the program before I stop the timeline. Then, the mouse pointer locks into "busy", program halts and I can still hear my clip playing for several seconds - sometimes until the end! Regards, Takis
  5. Yes, I can confirm this solved too! The box is horizontal, conveniently placed higher of the timeline and far enough to prevent accidental hits! Well done!
  6. Dear friends, I just downloaded v 8.06 and installed over 8.04. I am happy to confirm the solution of the EQ-saving with the project! However, concerning the bracket-pop-up, I do not see any difference! The pop-up box is still vertical... A kind suggestion: Updates come fast, as a result of developer's hard work to give us a better software. It would be nice if there was an update-log of some kind, accompanying each version, briefly describing the problems solved. Forgive me if it already exists and please inform me where to find it. Regards, Takis
  7. Thanks! c) I will try to replicate the issue and submit. It is possible that it is a problem of my Asrock motherboard. Takis
  8. Thank God , in the latest update (v8.04), the sound looping problem is gone! I 've been testing it for the last 2-3 days, after its immediate release, and I am happy to report that my timeline runs smoothly without sound problems! Bravo, well done, to the developers and the kind administrators of the forum (Borate, National Solo, etc) for their fine job! Problems still to be addressed: a) The small popup window that comes up when repositioning the red line. As written before, the window is not annoying itself, the brackets are! Because if accidentally pressed, they set the beginning/end of project discarding the rest without warning. b)The EQ settings must be saved with the project. I discovered another bug here, if you split a clip, the remaining pieces are set to ...flat again. In a few words, EQ settings are neither saved nor retained when working in the timeline. Of course I do it the "Borate" way, using the copy&replace effect button, but I have to do it ALL the time! c) I would like to report another issue, but I am not sure if it is due to the software, or to my PC: When I sync and join two audio clips, I get a "click" sound when it plays through the junction... In order to reduce it, I have to zoom to the maximum and then try to achieve perfect matching of the waves. I can still hear it though, but much less... I had this to all versions, and I used to solve it by overlapping the clips in different tracks and use fade in/out in both. The "click" exists even to no-sound wave forms (audio with low or zero volume). So far so good, Regards, Takis
  9. Thank you Nat! It would be a great relief, to stop "aiming" away from the cursed brackets! 🙂 After all, in my humble opinion, they are not so important to a project. Personally, I prefer the classic triad "split-select-delete" to set the beginning and end of a project... Thanks for you help, Takis
  10. Dear Borate, I tried to troubleshoot the problem, without success. I even re-installed windows 10, bought a new video card and a new SSD 512GB disk only for caching. It did not help at all.... I load the project, let it rest and complete all it's caching. I place the red playback line to a spot, press play and looping occurs... No such problem in 7.51 with the exact same project! Another question, concerning your advice on multiple application of EQ. I followed your advice, but everytime it adds a NEW EQ effect to all clips. If I do this everytime I load the project, I will end up with 10 EQ effects in every clip. I want only to configure the EQ, not add a new one! Thanks for your patience, Takis
  11. Dear Nat, It is not my wish to invoke the small pop-up window. I do montage and resizing all the time and I have to hear the result. Therefore, I move the redline to the area of interest, in order to play it back. And the annoying little devil comes on screen. As I aim for the red line, the "brackets" are often pressed and my timeline gets crippled! It looks as annoyment only and extra CTRL-Z 's. But being absorbed by the project, I sometimes do not realize that I pressed a "bracket".. After 10 minutes I try to go to the beginning of my project and realize that IT'S GONE! Then I have to CTRL-Z my life back before the disaster, loosing ALL of my recent work! Needless to say that if "I saved and closed", I had it! Concerning the "looping" problem, I agree with you on the possible cause. However, it is impossible to work with this bug, I had to roll back to v7.51. Please read below my answer to Borate. Dear Borate, I will try the "all together" setting of the EQ, thanks. It is time consuming though... Concerning the "looping" bug: When I playback the timeline, the red line is jumping back and forth, replaying the same things 2-3 times and then move forward. It is EXACTLY like the old pickups when the needle was stuck, replaying a part of the track. I uploaded a sample before, you asked me for a sample project. But the problem is that it happens in projects with many chunks of clips. It does not happen with only 1-3 clips... I rolled back to 7.51 and it DOES NOT have this problem at all! The same project plays back "looping" to v8 and normally to the earlier version... Therefore, it must be a problem of the latest version. It is a bit dificult to re-install version 8, since I am working on a project this period but, if it is necessary, I will do it. An idea/request: Please test v8 not only with lengthy clips, but with "chunky" ones. 10-15 clip chunks, arranged into 3-4 track lines, should make the problem surface... Thank you both!
  12. It is frustrating writing again to complain about issues, that seem so improper to a succesful video tool such as videopad. First of all, I would like to be clear that I don't just whine. I submit all bugs, issues and even ideas to the programmers via the online button. But I would like to mention some issues here, that in my opinion should be fixed ASAP, and increase the "pressure" to the programmers. a) This ultra-annoying small-pop-up timeline window, the one with the scissors and the brackets, should go away. I really do not see why the programmers introduced such a pain in the butt! It pops up at almost every click, JUST UNDER the mouse pointer, and it is clicked by mistake all the time! In 90% of the cases the buttons clicked are the brackets which set current point as project's start or end, DELETING the rest of the project. AWFUL! Remember the ALT problem? This is far worse, because not only you lose time and clicks, but you also mess up your project! I tend to believe there must a sadist between the programmers! Have mercy!🙂 b) Last beta (v8) is sound-looping during playback. I had to go back to 7.51 since it is impossible to play the timeline in v8. This happens to moderately and big sized projects. I reinstalled windows 10, all my drivers, etc, but still it is looping. It is not a matter of a specific project, it happens to ALL of my projects, while they play fine on 7.51. c) I complained before, but I will say it again: EQ settings are NOT saved in the project.... I have more than 10 small clips, and I am forced to reset the EQ evertime I reload the project. Yes, I know that I can create my own EQ preset, I have done so, but I still have to re-select it for every clip! Again, have mercy!🙂 Thanks for reading, I am looking forward to a flawless version!
  13. I just installed the beta fix for 7.53, and was happy to see that the "ALT button invoking hamburger menu" problem is solved! At last! Solving it had the effect of a relaxing medication 😃, since this problem has been fiddling with my nerves daily... Additionaly, the software exits faster now than before! Lately I had delays of 5-10 secs when exiting... Thank you NCH! However, with new fixes came new problems 😪. Since the update, i have been experiencing random audio loops, "hickups"... Does anybody else have this problem, or is it a native issue? I used debut to record an example from the problem in my project. Notice the random loops (hickups) during playback. I deleted all cache files, still the same... https://mega.nz/#!XOoUSCRD Decryption Key is: Ur-5CUsiHZjh3T2lBvpRAZRJnQXP9-RCskdV3j8qyKk

    Delay issues

As discussed previously, I face delays in program's functionality. Obviously there is something wrong, but cannot find out what... I operate VP on an AMD FX-6350 6-Core cpu, clocked at 3.9GHZ. My motherboard is an Asrock 990FX Extreme 3 with 8GB or RAM, Patriot SSD disks. Video card is ASUS RX560 with 4GB of DDR5. This is a system above average, but still, I face severe delays in program's execution. I press PLAY/STOP on the video console and it starts/stops after 3 sec... It is hard to work with the timeline as well and imposible to write subtitles, due to huge delays. Even exiting the software takes several seconds, even minutes if you exit while playing the video project. I do not have a problem with other applications, I run a benchmark that gives me good scores for everything. Following kind advice from the forum, I erased the cache directory (I have a whole empty disk for VP cache), but to no avail. I also fiddled with all available settings in the options menu, but nothing... Opening task manager, shows that VP consumes 32-50% of CPU, while doing nothing! Starting a task, like playing, editting ,invoking subtitles, etc skyrockets CPU load at almost 100%. Initialy this problem was connected to big projects, but I have the impression that it got worse and now I have it in smaller projects too. I am currently working on a sample to submit to the NCH programmers, but was wondering if anybody has the same issues... CPU and MEM, with software being idle: https://ibb.co/XWB8dFM
  15. This is what I currently do... Unfortunately, there are many different audio clips, with different equalization (due to different organs). Therefore, almost every time I load the project, in order to continue working, I have to re-configure all the clips... I have around 6-7 customly saved presets. Is it not possible -once applied and saved- to keep it permanently and load it automatically next time? Individual audio volume levels are saved, why not the EQ settings? Forgive my asking, I am not a programmer and there might be technical limitations to what I ask, but anyway I put it into your consideration.
  16. Another issue, that I just happen to notice is with the equalizer (EQ). Unfortunately, saving a project does not save (at least always) the EQ settings of individual clips! I have to have different clip EQ, and loading a saved project loses all EQ settings to flat! Impossible to work with, since every day I have to reset the desired EQ values...
  17. Thank you Borate for forwarding my comments to the programmers. Also, thank you Nationalsolo for your answer. I understand that what is convenient for me, could be annoying to somebody else. However, since I have been using VideoPad for many years to produce my piano lessons and the video clips of my songs, I have found some features to be practical and others unfortunately not... Concerning the "Clips can be resized only from left to the right" issue, in early versions I could freely resize clips at any direction with full ALT anchoring. Sadly, in the latest versions ALT anchors only from L to R and not vice versa. Of course, as Nationalsolo mentioned, one can resize R to L, but the automatic snap pulls clips following to the left.... Please understand that in musical editing, you have to fully control the start and stop margins of every clip, beat has to match and instruments have to be timed to the millisecond. I really do not understand the presence of this complicated gap-closing automation in the software, for me it causes a lot of wasted time since I am compelled to correct timeline discrepancies caused by it. Of course, if you want to produce a quick project i.e. vacations video, a party/event video, etc. it might be useful to automatically close gaps in-between sessions. But, in professional audio-video you need to control the timeline at all times and gaps are a useful tool to setup and tune your whole project. At least I do. The way that Borate suggests (first disconnect the clip from the next one and then resize) is plausible, but YES it employs more steps and in most cases there is no free space on the timeline to disconnect, either to the left or right. For now, I transfer it on another track, but still it is complicated and errors occur. CTRL+Z has to be used all the time. Concerning the delays in the software, I have tried to check-uncheck almost everything in options, to no avail... I have a separate 2GB WD-purple disk mapped as drive D, only for videopad caching. A lot of free space there... I also tried to delete all cache form older projects, still nothing... It is difficult to submit my latest project as portable, since it is more than 300MB (including videos). However, if there is no other option, I will try to create a smaller test project, that still has the delays and upload. Memory, CPU power are reported plenty, but obviously I am short of something for the delays to appear... For the other issues, thank you for the info. Borate told me before how to make the beat lines go away. But, I forgot it was the right mouse click and I was browsing the menus...
  18. As said in the title, version 7.51 is better than its predecessors. Snapping is more reliable, without surprises. However, some problems still remain and were left unaddressed by the programmers: 1) The "ALT and the hamburger menu" problem is still there. Pressing ALT to anchor a clip also invokes the hamburger file menu. Windows moves keyboard and mouse focus away from the timeline, to the menu. Very annoying... I would kindly suggest, if possible, to appoint another key (other than ALT) for the menu. 2) Clips can be resized only from left to the right.... Resizing "right to left" causes automatic snap of the next clip, even if ALT is kept pressed. We have discussed this issue before, I strongly believe it should be possible to resize both ways, and ALT should have absolute priority over snapping. 3) In projects with many short clips, there are severe program delays... I do not refer to the preview window, but to the entire program. Delays in button and menu selections, delays in the control console. My latest project is a 7 minute piano lesson of a song, with many small clips. Unfortunately the delays makes it impossible to edit anymore... I cannot figure out why, but the bigger the project, the bigger the delay. A memory usage issue? I installed a real time mem-cpu counter and it reports memory 43%, CPU 7%. It is not that much, therefore it must be something else. I installed a top-line video card with 4GB DDR5 but still, no noticeable improvement. Maybe too much automation and gadgets overload the software? 4) The "beat white lines" are haunting me even in this version.... There was supposed to be an option to disable them, but I cannot find it. Anyway, at least they are dotted and not so visible... 5) It is not of this version, but what happened to the "track lock" buttons in the timeline? Were they removed for a reason? 6) The small all-time emerging gadget-window "split / start /end time", could be annoying, since it is pressed by mistake and messes the timeline. In conclusion, the biggest setback (from my point of view) are the delays I mentioned above, and I kindly put it at the programmer's attention.
  19. There is no discussion on the commitment of NCH programmers. The software's evolution-vs-time ratio, is indicative of their work. We are here to report issues and consume the fruit of a better software. After all, no software was ever born perfect. Bringing it to the top is a task that takes time. Windows , as you mentioned, is a typical example. I will replace (probably tomorrow) my GPU unit and I will come back with info on the delays... Thanks again!
  20. It occurs to the buttons of the preview console: I press PLAY and it takes 2-3 seconds to start, then STOP and it keeps playing for another 2-3 seconds... With one or two clips, it is tolerable. As clips get more and effects are added, the delay gets bigger and bigger, and after a while it is impossible to work anymore. Do not imagine huge projects, I am talking about 3-4minute total time. Keep in mind that these delays did not exist in versions <5... As mentioned before, my computer is fast and the only part that might be questioned is the graphics card (ASUS HD5450 SILENT). Therefore, I ordered a new graphics card with 4GB memory (for gamers) and I will tell you if it solves this problem. I use the pan (L-R balance) sliders, since I play different instruments and put them in parallel tracks in order to have extreme stereo effect. But the slider positions are not saved on exit. Please try to set track1 to 40% to the left, and track2 60% to the right. Save and exit VP. When you re-run the software you will see the sliders to 100% left and right respectively. In this version there is another bug: When I resize an isolated video clip, it moves to the left! It behaves like aligning to the left! Very annoying, because you lose the clips position. It does not happen when ALT is pressed, but again ALT invokes the file-hamburger menu and the mouse loses focus from the timeline. You have to click on the timeline to regain it... Many problems unfortunately...
  21. That's OK with the edge-ears. I suppose I will get used to them. The gap automations though is a different issue and hard to deal with. Therefore, the programmer's hand is needed there... I am also experiencing delays during edit, mainly with console button response (play-pause button). This was not anticipated, since my computer is faster than average ( 3,9GHz 6 core CPU, 8GB RAM, SSD drive with at least 100GB free space , RADEON 5450 2GB graphics). I do not know if there is something wrong with my installation , I re-installed several times without result. It happens to all versions above 6. I cleared video cache, again no result. I press play/stop during edit and I have ~1sec delay in response. Do you have such a problem?
  22. Well said. Yes I scanned for beat marks, otherwise the lines do not appear. Anyway (sigh..), I will wait for the next version, and hopefully there will be a gap-closure enable/disable button. Isolating a clip by first moving the next one to the right is not practical, at least to me. Imagine if you have a line-up of 25 clips... By the way, try to directly shorten the clip by pulling it from its right end handle: Disaster follows, everything shifts to the left. This did not happen to good old version 4.4. Another thing, Can you please tell me the name of the variable to change into registry, in order to remove the fluffy ears? There are 10+ variables in the configuration string and I cannot figure out which one refers to the "ears". Shall I change it from i.e. EarsOn to EarsOff? Thanks again
  23. To be honest, this beta version (7.50) works much better to me, than the stable 7.39! First af all, I should clarify that, when I refer to "auto-snap", I do not mean the "magnetic touch" that takes place when we bring two clips into close proximity. This is a useful feature, that speeds up arrangement and help us avoid possible overlap during a manual positioning. The annoying is the one that automatically closes gaps, by moving all clips that lay to the right, in order to snap. Maybe "auto snap" it is a poor expression from my side and I should call it "auto gap-closure". This totally destroys our timeline! Shortening intermediate clips is commonly applied for montage purposes. There, we need to find the "matching point", that is the desired point of transitioning. In many cases, video has a different matching point than audio, and they have to be worked separately. Moreover, many people (including myself) like to set up a basic timeline plan, by positioning basic clips and leave gaps in between, to be filled later with other clips or trailers. This is how most professional editors work. You can imagine the damage caused by the automated long range snap.... In your first ever "snap-less" versions, it was much easier to work on the timeline. Since then, I have become a meticulous user of the ALT button but -believe me- mistakes happen all the time and CTRL-Z is now a part of my life. In conclusion, gaps are not necessary bad; As a matter of fact, we often need them there during edit. Finally, here is some input for the beat feature. The first image https://ibb.co/6RKSvrd is plain pop beat with tempo 90. You can see that the software has 100% success to identify the rythm. However, as seen in the second image https://ibb.co/MZ91SVs, when instruments are added, it fails to correctly mark the lines on the beat. As mentioned before, for me this feature is not useful, but it might be to others. Another bug that exists in all latest versions (and I keep forgetting to report😖) is incorrect saving of the L-R balance status in tracks. I balance a track i.e. 30% to the Left and another to 45% Right. I finish for the day, save my project and exit VP. When I reload my project, the balance status was not saved correctly. It is 100% left and 100% right. I have to remove the sliders into desired position. On exit again same story, balance is not saved...
  24. Here is a quick review: First of all, before anything else, I totally removed v7.39. Then, I ran a renown registry cleaner, in order to get rid of previous version's parameters -if any. Finally, I installed the 7.50 beta. - From the first view, it is obvious that the white beat-line problem is resolved. I right-clicked on a clip to see that it was disabled by default. Perfect! From curiosity, I enabled them and noticed that you also made them dotted, which is good for anyone that might need them. I do not, and was happy to see them go! Just for your input, I do not see any relation with the clip's beat. If you want, I can record a simple beat from one of my synths and send you a copy, in order to see for yourself. - Now to auto-snap.... It did not go away, it still happens, but it is my impression that it has improved. For me, snap should take place ONLY manually, when you bring two clips into proximity. The biggest annoyment is that it takes place when you remove an intermediate clip, that is a clip between two other clips. We do this all the time duing editting. But, every time you resize an intermediate clip, all the others come closer and closer, trying to snap! This is unacceptable during film editting, when you delete/insert/resize all the time... Moreover, it happens to other tracks also! When you resize a clip in the first track, other tracks are also trying to snap, imploding the whole film. The ALT button is a way to fight snap-implosion, but: a) some kind of snap-implosion still happens, it is hard to describe the problem, but somehow the next clip still comes to the left and you have to put it back. This occured to 7.39 also. b) When you press ALT to kill snapping, it also opens "menu" at he top left (line menu)... I hope I gave some useful feedback, Takis
  25. Thanks! I get immediately on it, I will test and report asap!
