I've been using Switch 4.6.7 for a long time to reduce the size of spoken audio files. My standard compression is .mov to mp3, Constant Bit Rate, High Quality Encoding, and 16 kbps. An hours worth of .mov (46 MB) reduces to 8 MB of .mp3 this way, and the sound quality is very good.
So I figured I'd upgrade to Switch 6.5.0. The SAME SETTINGS then produce 3.8 MB of .mp3, and the sound quality is abysmal. OK, so I try 24 kbps. That also produces 3.8 Mb, with abysmal sound quality. That doesn't make sense. I need to go up to 32 kbps in order to get very good sound quality, and the .mp3 size is 15 MB.
So, um, why should I use the newer version of Switch? Using the same settings, why is the result so different?
