I have been experimenting with different versions of Debut. Older versions have a selection that will give a warning notice of extremely large file, and a 30 second recording will be nearly 500MB. However, the latest version (3.07 free home) doesn't seem to have this warning notice, or any option to make the extremely large file. I don't really want an extremely large file, but I am curious if the new version still has this option, and if so, how to select it. On the new version, I selected "fast capture" but this only gave a 5MB file for 30 seconds. When I selected "fast capture" on an older version, I got the extremely large file warning, and indeed, a 30 second recording was about 500MB. That is a huge difference (500MB and 5MB). On the new version, the "fast capture" that gave 5 MB, the video looked quite good, so why is the file size so small compared to the older version? Note: in all cases here I am creating video with avi format.
