so their not DRM files then ? check that in windows explorer by doing a right-click on them -> Properties -> check for a Licensing tab (if its not there then the files arent DRM). if its not DRM, please open the file with Windows Media Player, and go to File -> Properties -> File tab -> look for "Audio Codec" and then copy and paste what is written there.

you're actually free to use the latest version if you want, just download the latest LAME 3.9x exe file, and replace it with the file in Program Files\NCH Swift Sound\Components (mp3el.exe - rename the lame exe to match this name). thats it, switch will now use the new lame ! we're currently deciding whether to "ship" the latest LAME with switch, we usually won't do it unless it does something that the older version can't do (or doesn't do as well). the latest LAME looks quite good so theres a chance we'll do it.

if you rip audio from a CD using windows media player then it will protect it with DRM by default. to check for DRM in ANY wma file, right-click the file in windows explorer -> click "Properties" -> if there is a License tab there, check that tab and see what it says. If there is no License tab, the file has no DRM.

WAV file source checker
nchtj replied to JeremyP's topic in Discussion about the many different audio file formats
i've not heard of such a thing sorry. -
1) its a good idea we'll add it into our list and see if we can put it in the program. 2) thats actually the LAME mp3 encoder adding the silence, not wavepad, so I'm not sure we can do anything about that sorry. if i was making loops though, i would want to preserve the best quality possibly and save to PCM wave format. It might be a bit bigger, but everytime you save to mp3 it loses just that little bit of quality, and over time it can add up.

sorry we haven't implemented support for reading wma tags just yet, but it is on our "todo" list.

does the sample file off our website work for you ? http://www.nch.com.au/acm/sample.CompLvl4.8000Hz.Mono.flac http://www.nch.com.au/acm/formats.html

we just use the plugin supplied by olympus, the format is owned by them and therefore we can only use whatever they give us. so unfortunately there is nothing we can do.

How to install Switch (free) into another directory/folder?
nchtj replied to ant's topic in Switch Sound Converter
if you know what you are doing, you can manually move it wherever you like and then go into your registry and change the appropriate keys to the new folder, see the registry keys HKLM\Software\NCH Swift Sound\Switch and HKCU\Software\NCH Swift Sound\Switch . i can't help too much with it, so don't do it unless you know what you are doing already. -
its certainly a problem, we're trying to determine the best solution for it at the moment.
-
it totally depends on your flac encoder settings, try playing around with them and see what happens.

hi, if you're really interested in doing a localization in french for Switch mac then feel free to contact me and I will forward your request to the relevant persons. off the top of my head, i believe translators may be financially compensated for their time as well (don't quote me on that though!)

mp3 to aac is supported in switch yes.

How to install Switch (free) into another directory/folder?
nchtj replied to ant's topic in Switch Sound Converter
we don't include it because the switch "footprint" is so small its just not worth it, its about 1MB all up I think (the majority of people want different install folders because some programs take up a lot of space, think several hundred MB with adobe audition for example). -
not natively no.

thats the same bug reported in post #1. new release is out very soon (like next few days).
-
is the DSS file recording in SP mode or LP mode ? we don't support LP mode files, as is mentioned in the Switch FAQ.
-
the reality is that some mp3 files suffer from poor encodings and theres not much that can be done about that other than to request a re-encoding of the file from whoever supplied it.
-
we want to investigate if we can improve the ram "robustness" in the software, the real plugin we use won't work with all streaming protocols for example, so we want to be able to report that a bit better to the users (open the ram file in notepad to see what protocol it is using)

Purchased Switch Plus & It's Not Working -
nchtj replied to JoshDub's topic in Switch Sound Converter
what format are those files ? and do we say on our switch FAQ that we support the format ? -
the next switch release (due out soon) will support it, but for now use wavepad, it already supports it: http://www.nch.com.au/wavepad

Suddenly Not Retaining MP3 Id Tags
nchtj replied to TrotskyIcepick's topic in Switch Sound Converter
i'm confused, what does "Access freedB" have to do with converting your mp3 files ? that option relates to ripping CD tracks. i believe there are one or two issues relating to "tag retainment" when converting files, the settings you choose has nothing to do with it, it depends on the tag format of the source file itself. the next switch is out very soon and should behave better for you, it wont be too long a wait. -
> But I find the switch process is still there after the convertion is over thats a bug but its been fixed in the (soon to be) next released version. > I want multithreading process, does switch do? no.
