  1. i believe there has been a Switch Mac release in the last few days (we haven't made an announcement just yet), what version are you using ? I believe the latest is now 1.10 .
  2. you probably have version 1.11, please download 1.12 off our website : http://www.nch.com.au/switch I'm guessing you must be using an Ape DirectShow filter ? Since we have not put support for it in the product, I'm guessing that is what you are doing.
  3. Switch 1.12 is out now so this thread is now terminated.
  4. its not possible to do it with any accuracy, any who claims to do it does it poorly.
  5. ok its in there as a command line option now, its -settempfolder, just call it from the command line to set your temp folder e.g. switch.exe -settempfolder "C:\temp"
  6. just convert to 8bit 8kHz PCM you can't tell the difference. PCM = linear PCM uLaw = non-linear PCM
  7. Switch 1.12 for the PC is now out. This release marks the 3rd update of Switch in as many months (1.10-1.12). The major changes since v1.05 are: Formats added: Reading/Decoding: wmv, avi, vob, amr, mpc, midi Writing/Encoding: rss, m3u, pls, wpl, amr, wma ~ User-interface was improved to make it even more intuitive ~ added extra options for handling file conversion errors and overwrites ~ support for reading more information in wave, dct, and mp3 files (right click on file -> 'View Extended File Information') ~ support for IDv1 and IDv2 tag for mp3 files ~ support for LIST/DISP, BWF and CART tags for wav files ~ Added option for converting audio streams through SoundTap (Convert menu -> Convert Audio Stream) Switch for Mac is currently being worked on and is due out very soon. Thanks for your patience and support!
  8. 1) no you don't need to re-purchase as long as you only have one licensed copy of switch active at the one time. if you are moving your installation more than a month after you purchased it you will need to contact us for a new key (making sure you submit your old details). 2) a) if any real file plays in realplayer then it will convert with switch you seem to be mistaken in thinking switch converts TO realmedia, it doesn't. is there somewhere you read that it did?
  9. try adding .snd as the file extension.
  10. you might not have been filled in about DRM and copy protection and all that jazz, here is some reading material for you http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Rights_Management http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copy_protection more importantly, here is the wikipedia article on audible audio: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audible.com and your solution appears to be: so burn it to cd then rip if off.
  11. its fixed, a new switch release is imminent. you dont have to pay to report problems, that is simply not correct. to report bugs go either 1) here or 2) here: http://www.nch.com.au/software/bug.html
  12. does it play in quicktime ? if so, its possible we can support it. otherwise we can't do it.
  13. yes there are, any software you use to make mp3 files will give you options for the sort of quality settings you want to apply to the mp3 file. look at switch if you want to see an example (http://www.nch.com.au/switch)
  14. notice for anyone sending email from a comcast address: comcast is blocking our mail server at the moment, so we cannot respond to queries from anyone with a comcast address. so you must write to us from another email address in order to receive a reply.
  15. we dont support transferring file information from real audio files.
  16. we cant offer any wine support other than whats already on our website, sorry. the reality is that most of the problems are caused by the wine emulation layer and we cannot do anything if the problem is wine. (http://www.nch.com.au/software/linux.html)
  17. when converting files switch does a 'fail-safe' test to see if the file exists on your computer. if it doesnt, it reports that message. it usually means the file has been renamed or moved.
  18. dont expect the board to be active every single day, thats not realistic. the access violations are fixed, email me for another copy. the 1-2 second loss issue is a problem with wma files and is not fixed yet.
  19. 1) quality reflects how closely the vbr goes to the min/max values. e.g. a quality in the middle somewhere means the rate will generally hover right in the middle between the min and max. a low quality means it the rate stick closer to the min. a high quality means the rate sticks closert to the max 2) we dont support reading tags from wma files just yet. 3) yes there will be some time saved if the files are on the same drive as switch.
  20. 1) there are early-stage plans to rename files based on tag info, but the implementation won't happen in the short-term. the problem with this feature is that so many different people will have so many different ideas about all the features they would like from renaming files, so we have to refine it and come up with the best solution to satify the majority. 2) 3500 files from an external source will probably take quite a while, try adding 350 files and see how long that takes, and then multiply it by about 10 to see how long 3500 files takes. the file sizes shouldn't matter, only the number of files. and if your USB connection is only USB 1.1, then that may blow out the amount of time it takes to load them. for me, loading about 1500 files from my local drive took about 5-6 minutes. try loading files from your local drive to see how long it takes on your computer, its a good experiment.
  21. is it cropped regardless of whether you do dvf -> mp3 or dvf -> wave ? theres not too much we can do here, we just use the Sony codec we dont write it. and since its a proprietary codec we dont have legal authority to modify it.
  22. save to .wav using the GSM codec save to either USB drive or external drive, a CD is no good for lots of data since its size to data-capacity ratio is no good.
  23. the dss plugin is downloaded manually from here: http://www.nch.com.au/components/dss32.exe thats an installer file, double click it to install it.
  24. rick_hughes : the email I sent to you bounced
