  1. unfortunately no, since all we are doing is passing the conversion off to RealPlayer and monitoring the progress of the RealPlayer conversion.
  2. sorry, our products are only sold online. the result is that you get them significantly cheaper. products distributed in stores usually have a high degree of markup.
  3. we've only just implemented it so it will be in the next release. every individual format requires its own implementation for reading and writing tags, so the work is far from trivial.
  4. as opposed to where ? if its a usb-connected or e-sata drive its ok, if its from a CD then it will be a fraction slower. songs sitting locally on your hard drive is a generally better scenario.
  5. what version are you using ? the latest is 1.12 . see Help menu -> About in the software.
  6. what happens when you open it in RealPlayer?
  7. just set the output folder to "[same as source file]" . it should be there in the output folder list already, if not then just type it in.
  8. yes the option is there in the options -> conversions tab (available in switch 1.10 or later).
  9. 1) ape isn't supported on windows by default 2) ape isn't supported natively by our software 3) the only way ape decoding will work in switch is if you have installed a third-party filter.
  10. there should be both a dmg and a zip linked from the page, can you see the dmg link ?
  11. use aac standard. there are no other lossless formats that we support other than flac. and unless you are playing your audio files on super-high quality speakers or headphones, you're not going to be able to tell the difference between aac and aac lossless.
  12. its possibly a protected wma file - its strange behaviour, but thats exactly what protected atrac (oma) files do.
  13. are they encrypted ? check the properties of the file in windows explorer and there will be a license tab if it is encrypted.
  14. thats because none of those files are audio files. exe - a program dll - a library file dat - a data file vxd - a windows virtual driver tpd - no idea inf - a text file containing important information such as loading of drivers, configurations for certain programs etc.
  15. >> BTW iTunes characterises the Switch .m4a converter as UNSTABLE ! can you clarify that ?
  16. its fixed in 1.13 (the next release), email our support team if you want a copy right now (its possible they already gave you one).
  17. yes those are current known issues that we are investigating, thanks.
  18. what version are you using ? i am guessing you must be using 1.05, because the latest 1.12 version (available off our site) fixes up that exact issue you said. 1) download the new version - http://www.nch.com.au/switch 2) mac components are all here: http://nch.com.au/components/mac/
  19. uninstall your existing copy of switch and then install the plus version after.
  20. hi, we would like to continue correspondence on this issue via email, please send an email to the Switch Mac developer Chris. just to clarify, the software's behaviour does not change after you register it, what you see in the demo/trial is exactly what you get after a purchase - there is simply nothing in the code to make it behave like you said. additionally, the latest version in particular has gone through extensive testing and it works fine on our Mac machines here (and yes that includes after we registered them). in the email you send to us, you need to clarify to us what you mean when you say "it won't work at all for any conversions", that is a very general statement and could mean any number of things. you need to say what you are specifically doing with the software and what happened when you tried doing that. for example, you might say "i was converting from wave to flac, and the software gave the error message "cannot convert file". give us as much information as you can, because that will ultimately lead to faster problem resolution. if you have any example audio files that gave problems when converting them, giving us one of them would also be a great help towards narrowing down the cause of the problem.
  21. sorry i'll need you to clarify a few things here - you mention m4a in the topic, but in the post you talk about mp3 - what format did you use when ripping the cd ? and what software did you use ? are you trying to use iTunes to rip it to m4a and then convert it in switch to mp3 ? thats a very 'lossy' way to go about it, doing 2 sets of file conversions to lossy compressed formats will reduce the quality of your audio files. my suggestion is to use Express Rip (http://www.nch.com.au/rip) to rip your CD to mp3 directly and see if that works.
  22. sorry we don't support wma with vrs - the references to wma you are seeing are for wma-encoded wav files, but unfortunately they are no good (they are shipped with windows).
  23. wma to mp3 should work fine - we have just released a new Switch Mac in the last few days, the latest is now 1.10, please check you have installed the latest version.
  24. RealNetworks supplies a library to use to decode rm files on Windows. To our knowledge they don't supply such a library on the Mac.
