  1. >>>Create you overlay text screen and in timeline mode place it beneath your background image/blank frame. Set the cursor line over the centre of the overlay box. Click the camera icon below the right hand preview screen. Split your sequence at the point where you want the text to appear. Now drag the "photo" from the media list and drop it ontothe main sequence line where you just split it. Now use the crossfade transition to dissolve the text in and then out at the other end. That's about the best you can obtain if the default fade in the overlay is too short for you. Brilliant! Works perfect! I thought the camera icon was simply used for taking snapshots of the selected clip(s) and used for other purposes outside of VideoPad (i.e jpeg images and such). Thank you very much! I also assume you want me to delete the text overlay box once the photo has been inserted into the selected position on the timeline. Otherwise the text will appear as "doubled-up". Correct?
  2. >>>What version are you using? I am using VideoPad version 2.41 on windows 7 My text is placed on a blank screen (color "black") and is static.
  3. Good Morning All, Is there a way to increase the fade-in and fade-out time on a text overlay? I already checked the box labeled "Fade" in the clip preview window when working on a text overlay but the pre-programmed fade-in and fade-out time is just a bit too short. In other words, I'd like to increase the fade-in and fade-out time of my text overlay (tile page and ending credits). Thank you
  4. Hi Nat, I've been holding off on responding to posts because I've been real busy working out all my video issues. As much as I would like to say FIXED, a more appropriate word would SOLVED. "Solved" as in "solved the puzzle" and found a work-around. "Fixed" signifies the code was corrected and/or the problem(s) should not occur again under normal usage. Please stand by..... I am almost finished with my edit and will respond with what I have discovered. At this point in time, I do not have any issues with jagged or shaky, pans and scrolling credits. In fact they look great! Also, I created a post earlier in regards to "text or font size issues". This was my biggest issue with VP and I have found a work-around that allowed me to display an acceptable and readable font size that is used on my beginning title clip and ending credits clips. Stand by please........ VideoPad Version 2.41 Windows 7
  5. After days of struggling, I have finally completed my video project today. Unfortunately, Youtube does not like scrolling credits. My gosh! After uploading and viewing my rendered project in Youtube, the credits (font size) change in size (ever so slightly) as they scroll. And they are too small! I have uploaded various rendered videos of the same project to get the scrolling text to display properly. No go. The text size choices in the slider bar are either too small or too large. I even tried to "bold" the text to make the small choice seem slightly larger. No go. To compound this problem, during upload to my youtube channel, Youtube either shrinks the text or makes it larger than what normally appeared in the preview screen in VideoPad. Thus I have two dilemmas please. 1) How, why and what happens when youtube converts the file to my channel 2) The Text slider bar in VideoPad. It seems there is only a "tiny" part of the slider bar that is usable (all the way to the left). Any choices provided as the slider bar is moved to the right greatly exaggerates the text size to proportions that GIGANTIC. I have to move the mouse ever so slightly to capture (what appears to be) an acceptable text or font size. The slider bar is very difficult to work with unless your project utilizes extremely large fonts. My initial video recording (prior to adding to my Videopad project) was completed back in 2010. The initial specs and steps that resulted in it’s current compression are listed below: 1) Videotaped myself performing a guitar “tutorial” solo 2) Discarded the audio part of the video because I “simultaneously” recorded the sound using my Digital Audio workstation that provides CD quality recordings. 3) Mixed down all audio tracks including my solo “audio” performance (total six tracks) into “1” track 4) Loaded the video (of my performance) and the “1” mixed-down audio track into VirtualDub and synced the video to the audio. 5) Then in VirtualDub I compressed the final output file down to 9 MB for emailing purposes. No problem. Everything went smooth. Yes I lost some quality because of the severe amount of compression. But it was only a tutorial video that I was emailing to a contact. Now things have changed. I have decided to use this video on my youtube channel and wish I had saved the original file prior to compression. But that’s long gone. Therefore this is what I have to work with. The initial video was about 3 ½ minutes in runtime. As I said earlier, I had to compress it down to a 9 MB file that would allow my ISP to allow it to be emailed (at the time there was a 12 MB limit on file attachments). Initially the video was probably in the area of 80 MB or higher. After trying to work with the project in VP ver. 3.0x, I found it difficult and reverted back to ver. 2.41 to get the job done. After finishing the edit, I chose “Detect” in the preset as I am not experienced enough with codecs and compression. I am simply familiar with these on a basic level (thus far). The initial video going into VP was a .avi format and that is what VP “detected” as the rendered format. Thus I let VP detect and decide what specs the video should be rendered to. The specs on my final rendered video are: Resolution: 640x480 – TV NTSC Frame Rate: 30.00 File Format: .avi Video Compressor: H264 (NATIVE) Video Compression Settings Quality (Ratefactor) 23.0 Sound Compressor: MP3 (NATIVE) Sound Format: 44100Hz 128kbps Stereo Final video size: 25.6MB I have no issues with the audio. In fact, you can turn it off while viewing as it plays no part in solving my problems listed above. I am fine with the slight jagged movement in my playing as this is probably a result of both VideoPad and Youtube’s conversion process. The original 9MB video file has NO jagged movements and plays fine. However after rendering in VP, the new file size is 25.6MB and there is no jagged playback. Looks great! The slight jaggedness (in the videois present only after uploading to youtube. Any ideas for a better render would certainly be appreciated. Any recommendations on how to fix the text issues? I can render the VP project again if necessary. Please see my final rendered video below. By the way, the scrolling credits at the end are divided into three sections that are spaced too far apart. As a result there are dead sections between the three separate text clips. Therefore, please watch the video to the very end. Thank you very much for your time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OJ30llcdBhk
  6. >>>Read every step and don't load any other things offered. Yes I too made certain that I UN-Checked all additional software offers during the install. >>>At one point there seems to only be an accept button. "Skip" is top right..sneaky. Now that I missed! Never noticed it! I'll have to be more careful next time. Thanks for noticing that! >>>No success and I'm still stumped. If in doubt I shall read the instructions.but haven't found them yet either Same here. Spent awhile with the program yesterday and basically got nowhere. As far as a user-manual, you won't find it. I searched and searched but came up with nothing. I like the interface and began to become familiar with some tasks but as far as completing a video, well.... I just didn't get that far.. Hopefully VSDC will expand on their concept and provide support. I haven't given up on this software yet. Just need to find the time to work with it. In the meantime, yes, I too went back to VideoPad ver. 2.41 and was able to "get some work done! Support, support, support. That's what it's all about!
  7. Hi Taylor Upon further investigation, I discovered that the free non-commercial version that VideoPad offers at the link I mentioned earlier is version 3.02 and not version 2.41.
  8. >>>If your jerkyness is much worse with frames jumping/freezing or breaking in half then it may be a performance problem linked to your PC. I am using VideoPad to make tutorial videos on "How-to Lead Guitar solos". As a result, yes, as my my hand moves across the guitar fretboard there is jerkyness that makes the video unusable. Its not so much my PC but the fact that their is "detailed" movement that is jerky/jagged. Now this could be the result of a video compression I did to the original video. The original plays ok but who knows what role the compression plays when VP renders the output "finished" file (movie). >>>Not exactly, I was refering to a Blank Frame (or still image, or relevant video clip of sufficient length,)added to the sequence line and over which your text scrolls. The duration of a blank frame or image can easily be lengthened or an intro video clip more than long enough can easily be shortened. The Overlay on this would be your scrolling text. Ok I understand. Thank you. Yes, I am aware how to shorten and lengthen the clips so the scrolling speeds up or slows down. I was experimenting with this in detail the other day. Unfortunately in ver. 3.02 the jerkyness is still present albeit less but its still there and makes the credits look non-professional. I just can't use the scroll feature. It's too shaky/jerky. >>>In version 2.41 After selecting "Save Movie" I click the down arrow at the right of the Preset box (which has Custom as the default) and select HD 720. (My original format from camera is usually HD720 MPEG 4 H264 clips but I convert these to MPEG2 clips for reasons related to image/sound lag. On my setup 1920 x 1080 Full HD gets rapidly out of synch ) If you now click Encoder Options you can select MPG4 (Native) and output your sequence with these options. They look oK on the PC via WMP and VLC player. Interesting and very informative! By the way.... when I render the final output movie and choose .mpg is that actually mpeg-2 or mpeg-4. I'm not clear as to what the exact mpg actually is mpeg-1, mpeg-2, mpeg-3 or mpeg-4? >>>This is a link to a slideshow made up of Lunar webcam photos, all 640 x 480, cropped to 16:9 AR, assembled with VP 2.41 and saved with the above settings. Fantastic video! Great work! >>>A thing NOT seen in the original which is pretty smooth apart from the pan at 2.52 which resembles the "traffic" effect I mentioned above. So I have to assume that it has been further altered by it being visualised from the link I entered. I did not notice this until you mentioned it. The fact that it is a black and white video and its a :busy" clip helps to hide the jerkyness. Other than that, it is a great video! Yes, who knows how much the jerkyness is a exaggerated as a result of being processed by passing the video on to other sources via links etc. Therein lies the mystery. >>>In many ways I rather like Version 3.02 as there are many useful features however, the program seems to produce hundreds of cache files even with a short edited film the generation of which slows things up considerably and if you read the comments on this forum ... http://nch.invisionz...-sloooooowwwww/ Yes I did read through all the posts. Thank you.
  9. Discovered this other video editing software called VSDC as a result of a kind suggestion on this forum. http://www.videosoftdev.com/free-video-editor However, I am not sure if I am comfortable installing this VSDC program as they install a program called "Conduit" that apparently frustrates many users. VSDC looks really powerful and simply curious why a particular company (who builds such an amazing video-editor) would bundle it with "Conduit" ? Conduit is very subjective as to whether it is a virus or just a passive software tracker. Does anyone know if VSDC will continue to install "Conduit" if I UN-CHECK the toolbar boxes during the install process? I really don't want to have to go through the painful process of searching how to thoroughly delete "Conduit" if it does install to my system. Found these links below in regards to "Conduit". Removing "Conduit" from Internet Explorer http://forum.precisesecurity.com/computer-security/remove-conduit-search-engine-from-my-ie Removing "Conduit" from "Firefox" http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=641296&start=0&st=0&sk=t&sd=a I may go back to VideoPad version 2.41 as that version had less issues. I also like the community forum on VideoPad. VSDC does not offer a support forum.
  10. Ok Thanks. I'll be very careful as I go through the install.
  11. Hi Borate, Thank you for helping with the solution to the "Zoom". I will give it a try. Is this solution an actual "zoom-in" as was available in ver. 2.41? Thank you
  12. Hi AndrewAndrew, Yes I am now experiencing issues as I work with the program this morning. I did read your earlier post in regards to VSDC. It certainly looks powerful. After jumping through a lot of hoops, I finally found their direct download site. See link below. http://www.videosoft...ee-video-editor Question # 1 please After downloading and starting the install process, I noticed in their License Agreement that they place additional software on your computer such as a toolbar, etc. Are you aware of this? Any concerns? Question # 2 please Also, can you please tell me if this VSDC editor provides unlimited audio and video tracks? Question # 3 please Certainly can't argue with the fact that VSDC video editor is free but and there's always a "but" :-) BUT there is no community support forum that I can locate. This is unfortunate as I enjoy helping and receiving answers to my questions that WILL certainly arise while using the new VSDC editor. I enjoy VideoPad's support forum here and will miss any and all support if I move to VSDC. Any suggestions please?
  13. This is my second day using VideoPad ver. 3.02 and I'm beginning to notice the issues mentioned above. I'm fairly new to video editing but have crawled thru and learned just about all the options in VP. Very interesting indeed but noticed that when I opened my projects this morning most of my text (in the scrolling text clip) are missing! Also, I'm not sure if others are experiencing this but most all clips in my project play jerky or jagged. Especially the pans, transitions, scrolling text and even the movie file I loaded into the project. No-matter how slow I make the text scroll it is still jerky and jagged. Thus the scroll feature is really unusable unless I am doing something wrong but I just can't seem to figure it out. Great program if they can fix some issues.
  14. I looked for the "Zoom" effect in version 3.02 and do not see it. Perhaps VideoPad ver. 3.02 does not support "Zoom". Unless I'm looking in the wrong place.
  15. I just downloded version 3.0.2 today and spent about 4 solid hours on it experimenting and learning the interface. It all made sense surprisingly fast! I did not experiment with the zoom effect today. Didn't get that far yet. Try some of these helpful links for other future how-to's !http://www.nchsoftware.com/videopad/faq.html http://www.nchsoftware.com/videopad/support.html http://nchsoftware.blogspot.com/2011/07/videopad-video-editing-tips-tricks.html What I usually do is just create a "test" project and learn the interface, experiment with the zoom, effects, transitions and overlays etc. That's the quickest way to learn. Worked for me plus the help provided on this forum.
  16. Did you try NCH VidePad's website? They offer a non-commercial version for free. I believe it is version 2.4.1 Go here and look at the second paragraph where it says "Get it free" and click on the link. http://www.nchsoftwa...opad/index.html You should try and stay with the latest version 3.02. It is way more powerful and makes more sense once you become familiar with the new interface. The new text attributes in version 3.02 now offers a specific font size instead of the sliderbar in version 2.4.1. That is a big improvement among other things. If your doing a lot of video editing, version 3.02 makes more sense! I have read other posts that point to the fact that there are some inconveniences and/or issues with ver. 3.02 that are beyond my understanding and level of experience. These issues will be fixed eventually. I like the interface a lot better than ver. 2.4.1. That's all.
  17. Hi Nat, Question # 1 What is interesting is that my video is jerky as well. My original video file is not jerky but it became jerky when I loaded it into VP by clicking "add file". I can't lengthen my video that enables VP to play catch-up by giving it time to create frames because I never shortened the clip to begin with. Why is the video jerky as well? Could it be my system memory. I'm only running 1 GB ram and I've just about used it all up running VP and windows 7. All other software is turned off. Question # 2 >>>If you are doing this over a neutral frame then you may want to increase the duration of this as well. In regards to "neutral" do you mean a "blank clip" that is used for an overlay text clip? Question # 3 >>>Two or three lines of text will scroll smoothly if the duration is extended to about 10 seconds (or more) Are you saying that it may be better to "break-up" my credits into separate text overlay clips (each with at most 4 lines of text)? Rather than one big long text clip? Question # 4 >>>For rendering I use HD 720 preset with Encoder options MPEG4 (Native) This gives smooth scrolling of text for me. I'm creating a video to upload to my Youtube channel. What is the best format to render? Are you recommending .mpg? Is .mpg the same as MPEG4 (Native)? If not, I do not see MPEG 4 Native in the drop down box under the "video output set-up" window that is present when I click "Export Video". My original video file (that was added to my VP project) is not perfect to begin with. It was compressed using VirtualDubMod and is about 3:15 in runtime and only 9.29 MB. I compressed this file two years ago so that it was able to be emailed. It does run fairly smooth for only a 9.29 MB file (hardly any jerk or chop). But it is much more choppy and jerky when I load it into my VP project file. Unfortunately I have to use this file to create a youtube video and I'm using VP to accomplish this. The original specs on this video file (after compression and before loading into my VP project) are: Video Stream 1) fps {us per frame} - 30 fps {33333 us} 2) Frame Size - 640x480 3) Length - 5870 frames 4) Compression - XviD MPEG-4 codec for original compression 5) Data Rate - 258 kbps {2.18% overhead}. Audio Stream 1) Sampling Rate - 44100Hz 2) Channels - 2 (Stereo) 3) Audio Tag - Tag: 0x0055, ACM Decodable MPEG-1 Layer 3 (MP3) 4) Compression - Fraunhofer llS MPEG Layer-3 Codec 5) Length - 3130635 samples (3:15.66) 6) Data Rate - 128 kbps (0.30% overhead) What are the best settings to choose to render this project when completed? Question # 5 Nat, I downloaded VP ver. 3.02 and it is certainly much better than ver. 2.41. Just finding my way around while creating my video. Very nice interface. Much more options! Looks real good!. Can you tell me what limitations are present in this trial version? I'm trying to extend the video track and its not as easy as ver. 2.41. It only seems to let me do it in small increments as oppose to just dragging the track clip to the left or right by holding the mouse down until I have the required length needed. Also, Is there a link that lists the limitations of the trial software ver. 3.02 (this way I won't be confused and waste time as to why a particular function is not working? Windows 7 1 GB Ram VP ver. 3.02 Thank you kindly
  18. Hi Members, Everything was successful with my video i created. The exported or "Saved Movie" was no problem. Although the video had no problems and looked fantastic in preview mode, I noticed that in the final output, the credits that scrolled (from bottom to top) are jagged and don't scroll smoothly as did in preview mode. This happens in the beginning and at the end of the video where I have scrolling titles and credits. The movie itself is perfect. It's only the scrolling text that is jagged. The text also appears to stop and then go (momentarily) and then scrolls very shaky. I saved the movie in both .mpg and .wmv formats and the results are the same (jagged credits as they scroll). Windows 7 VideoPad ver. 2.41 Any ideas what could be causing this problem? Thank you.
  19. Hi nchdl, Thank you kindly. I am ready to render my file but I just can't get the text "size" slider to stop at the acceptable font size needed. The text is either too large or too small. What is really strange is the text will get larger as I move the slider to the last possible position "to the left" which normally results in the smallest font size. Otherwise it's a fantastic program! Oh well..... I'll have to plan on version 3 at some point. Thank you.
  20. OK Dougie, thanks for your time.
  21. Hi Dougie, I'm using version 2.41 Windows 7 I don't see a big "T" in version 2.41 Thank you
  22. Hi Members Completing my first video edit today and ready to hit "Save" (or render) button. I would kindly like to know if there is a way to enlarge and reduce the font size of the text when I'm creating Titles and/or Credits? I know how to utilize the slider that is labeled as "Size" located in the clip preview window but this method is not easy. I have to move the mouse ever so slightly to obtain the exact font size that is appropriate and doing so I overshoot the desired text size. Is there another method to obtaining an exact font or text size? For example, how do I obtain an exact 14 pt. "Times New Roman" for text size? I already know how to choose the font type , its just the exact font "size" that is difficult to master as I move the slider either left or right. I am using VideoPad version 2.41 Windows 7 Thank you
  23. Hi Dougie, Thank you for helping. Interesting solution! I will give it a try!
  24. Hi Members, I hope my "topic title" identifies my situation. Here it is in detail please. I have my introduction text on a blank "black" screen set to scroll from, "bottom to top". No problem (so far). As the text scrolls (in the preview window), it does not finish scrolling "off the top of the screen" (like it should). Instead usually the last line suddenly disappears before its had a chance to complete the scroll. I eventually figured that it is better to create shorter multiple "text overlays" rather than one big long one. A long text overlay takes awhile to render or create when a small correction is made (i.e. add a word or correct a mistake). This still did not fix my problem. It's strange because at first I thought that a long text overlay was the problem but noticed the same thing happens when I create a short text overlay (i.e. two short lines of text). Some text overlays are fine and scroll perfectly while others cut out before they finish scrolling. I extended the text overlay by dragging it out further thinking that was the issue but it only slows the scroll speed down (obviously). I can't figure out why at times the end of the scroll "cuts out" or suddenly "disappears" before it reaches the end of the scroll sequence. I even made sure the blank clip is long enough. I began to wonder if there could be an issue to where the text overlay is placed in regards to the position of each clip but I moved the text overlays so they line up NOT under any divider line of each clip but it had no effect. I then Rebooted the computer, loaded the project file again, deleted the text overlay that was giving me the problem, created a new text overlay using the same "words" and it scrolled perfectly. Have no idea why this worked! Any thoughts? Windows 7 Videopad ver. 2.41 Thank you
  25. Hi Nat, Ok, I switched to version 2.41. Yes, much better. Thank you very much for your help.
