  1. Don't have a Mac here, but Windows procedures should be very similar.

Save AS opens the file manager where you can choose the folder where the VPJ control file is to be saved.    After choosing a folder, Videopad remembers the last save location and this will be the default Save AS choice the next time you save.  You can change it.  What's seen under MEDIA settings refers to something else, not the VPJ.

When the VPJ loads it will restore the entire project as it was on the timeline when saved.  A VPJ is never added to the media bin or timeline.

OPEN FILE  Screenshot 2024-02-21 111759.png is used to load a VPJ project.  ADD FILES is for adding video, audio, etc. to the bin, for editing.

The caret to the right of the OPEN icon  Screenshot 2024-02-21 112028.png will present a list of recently opened projects.

If you do manage to load the project, even if there is no audio, please share it for analysis.  Someone here will help solve the problem.  Follow these exact steps...

    •     Back up --- With your project on the timeline, click on MENU at the top-left.  Click FILE|BACK UP PROJECT FILES TO FOLDER.  Choose a folder and SELECT FOLDER.
    •     Upload ---  Use a free server - Google Drive, MS OneDrive, etc.* - to upload the saved, numbered FOLDER.    Do NOT upload the individual VPJ or export file.
    •     Get link --- Get a public link.  Right-click the file and click SHARE. When using Google Drive, if necessary change "restricted" to "anyone with the link can view"
    •     Share ---     Click COPY LINK | DONE.  Paste that link here, or click the folder at the top-right of this forum to message it privately to me.  It won't be shared.

              *    Before uploading, right-click the folder, click PROPERTIES.  Look at the File Size to confirm that it's not too big for the free space on the server.

  2. The VPJ tells the program what to do.  It's never added to the timeline.  Before loading the project, go to OPTIONS | DISK tab and Clear Unused Cache Files.

Launching a VPJ will open the project in Videopad.  Alternatively, with VP already open, click FILE | OPEN PROJECT.  Find the VPJ, and click it.

Save Project File AS routinely, giving it a unique # or name, so as not to overwrite prior saves.  Using Save Project Files (no AS) will overwrite.  From the HOME tab, that choice is available by clicking the caret to the right of the Save Project button on the toolbar.

If the issue persists, come back here.

  3. If it's a standalone clip there should be fade icons...  1.jpg  If it's the beginning clip, the fade IN icon appears;  if at the end, the fade OUT.

Fades can also be programmed by keyframing the TRANSPARENCY effect...  image.png

Various fade TRANSITIONS can be applied between clips...  image.png

    Click the images to enlarge.

  4. Share your project and someone will help.   The process is easy, quick and can be done privately.  Just follow these steps...

  5. Close the program.  Reopen, but do not load the project.  Go to OPTIONS | DISK tab and Clear Unused Cache Files.  Then reload the project.

Test the latest.  For licensed users upgrades are free for up to six months from purchase date.  After that, VP will continue to fully function but a fee is required in order to register the newest.  Retain your old install file and registration info.  If there's an issue, you can always revert.

If no change, share.  It's the best way to track down issues.  We'll take a look.  The process is easy, quick and can be done privately.  Just follow these steps...

  6. You can try to relink.  This will pull A/V back into sync.

Also there's a grouping option, which may or may not help your issue...  Select the video and audio tracks, then right-click and Group Selected Clips.

If either audio or video are edited independently, sync won't be maintained.

Confirm that the video driver and Direct-X are current...  https://www.nchsoftware.com/videopad/kb/1772.html

Dangerfreak might want to upload a project for testing.

  7. If the files are both audio and video (linked) then sync should be retained.  Share a project that does this and someone will experiment.

The process is easy, quick and can be done privately.  Just follow these steps...

    •     Back up --- With your project on the timeline, click on MENU at the top-left.  Click FILE|BACK UP PROJECT FILES TO FOLDER.  Choose a folder and SELECT FOLDER.

No need to recreate your work if you Save Project File AS routinely, giving it a unique # or name, so as not to overwrite prior saves.  Using Save Project Files (no AS) will overwrite.  From the HOME tab, that choice is available by clicking the caret to the right of the Save Project button on the toolbar.  The the project can be restored to the time of the back up simply by loading the VPJ file.

  8. Please share the file that had no audio in Videopad, and state the version of the program in use. (Look at the bottom-left of the window.)  Here's how...

Upload the file/s to a free server, such as Google Drive or MS OneDrive, right-click the link and Share.  Copy the result and paste it here or to me in a Private Message via the mail envelope in the top-right corner of this forum.  When using Google Drive, if necessary change "restricted" to "anyone with link can view.

  9. Don't spot a frame advance issue with this 16.04 release...

Demonstrate the issue with the end point, using a video grab, if possible.  Upload it to a free server such as Google Drive or MS OneDrive, right-click the link and Share.  Copy the result and paste it here or to me in a Private Message via the mail envelope in the top-right corner of this forum.  When using Google Drive, if necessary change "restricted" to "anyone with link can view.

Or clearly describe the steps that cause the end-point issue, then share the project where it's seen.  Just follow these steps closely and someone will check it out...

  10. The time it takes to cache (build preview) depends upon the nature of the content.

Individual video clips are cached when the green line above them completes.  image.png

If there are multiple tracks, the sequence is cached when the blue line beneath the preview window turns purple.  image.png

If the Sequence tab that's above the bin (top-left) is clicked, and the sequence previewed, its caching line turns gray.image.png

There won't be a Sequence tab above the bin unless there is more than a single sequence.

  11. The bin is where files are imported, prior to being placed on the timeline...    image.png

There are tabs above for the specific file types - Videos, Audio, Images.  And when there is more than one sequence a Sequence tab will appear as well.

To create new sequences click the + sign to the right of the Sequence 1 tab above timeline.

  12. Three hours of content can get clunky.  You may want to import smaller sections at a time.

Right-click on the content and COPY.  Then right-click in an open area of the bin and click PASTE clip.  Now you have a duplicate.  Leave the master as is.

Click the PV focus to the duplicate, move the preview pointer to the IN point and, under the PV window, SET START.

Move the pointer to the OUT point and SET ENDimage.png

That trimmed clip can then be placed on the timeline.  Each clip made similarly from a duplicate can be given its own sequence, if desired.

So each becomes a separate file in the bin, incrementally numbered (1), (2), etc.  They can be renamed with a right-click | RENAME.

When the project is Saved,  launching the VPJ file will restore the project and those files.

They are not, however, separately stored on the PC.  You must export the sequences in order to accomplish that.

As noted above, sequences can be exported individually or via via FILE|EXPORT ALL SEQUENCES.

The result is that each event will be a playable file - likely an mp4.

VP is non-destructive.  It never alters the source files on the PC.

  13. There are various approaches, depending upon the result desired.  One way...

Import all birthday clips (for example) to the bin (top-left), then arrange them on the sequence.  Export the sequence.  That creates a file to play in any viewer.

Before exiting, SAVE the sequence for protection and possible further editing.  Saves become a VPJ file, which when opened will restore the sequence in Videopad.

Now do the same for Mom's invitation, etc.  SAVE under a new name.

Alternatively, import all files and create separate sequences for your categories.  Each sequence can be exported individually or en masse via FILE|EXPORT ALL SEQUENCES.

  14. Something certainly is.  SAVE the project, for protection.

As an alternative to the sharing instructions, zip the folder that contains all the source files and the VPJ, assuming that they are all in a single folder.  Then upload and share that zipped folder.

As to the 'hang', first try this...

Close Videopad.  Restart it but do not load the project.  Click OPTIONS | DISK tab and Clear Unused Cache Files.  Now load the project.

If no joy, use this free tool to delete Videopad.  Let it scan the registry, and delete all the entries it finds.

    Then install this release.

For licensed users upgrades are free for up to six months from purchase date.  After that, VP will continue to fully function but a fee is required in order to register the newest.  Retain your old install file and registration info.  If there's an issue, you can always revert.

    Report back...

  15. Place the finished project on the timeline and let someone check it out.  That's about the only way to determine what's going on.

Sharing is easy, quick and can be private.  Just follow these steps closely...

  16. Videopad should handle this type of project very well.  And videos edited in 16.1 will load in later releases...

A saved project can be loaded into an active project via FILE | IMPORT CLIPS FROM ANOTHER PROJECT.  The clips will be added to a new sequence, and can be copied to the active sequence.  Placeholders can also be programmed.  See the ? HELP file.

  17. Thanks for sharing.  No speed or sync issues noted here, using the current release.

However, there's a little bug during some transitions, which tend to hang midway.  It has been reported.

To work around it you might use this release.  Ignore any virus warnings.

No need to uninstall what you're running now.
