  1. These are inexpert jottings! It may be that the sound card in your PC doesn't have Stereo Mix, in which case you need to record from Rec Playback. I have this problem with my Dell Precision laptops with IDT HD Audio. When recording via Rec Playback the volume on the recording is controlled by the volume broadcast from the speakers, so if you mute your speakers you don't get any sound on the recording. In the end I attached an external speaker to the headphone socket and was able thus to control the sound in the room without affecting the recording. An external USB speaker is no good, I tried that but when adjusting volume on it the volume on the recording was also adjusted. In order to access Rec Playback, you may have to go into your sound settings (right-click on microphone icon in taskbar and select Recording Devices), click on a blank space and tick 'Show disabled/disconnected devices'. My Debut 'Capture sound' setting is Microphone ticked - Rec Playback selected from the dropdown - System Mixer on the right. If you do buy an external speaker, make sure it has its own volume control so that you don't have to use your PC's volume control. I hope that helps, and am sorry if it doesn't.
  2. That's very useful, Ian - I was going to tell you to ask NCH Support when I saw your intial post. I have Aeroglass disabled on all my PCs, can't see the point of it - but you've shown that it does have a negative impact, in a roundabout way

    Debut 203 ?

I'm puzzled too. It seems to me that NCH makes a habit of releasing new versions of Debut (and maybe other software too) with spurious amendments - essential features never change or improve, and new bugs are introduced with each release. We can't test betas because once the trial period is over we are not allowed to reinstall our existing licensed version.
  4. Sorry if my post misleads you into thinking I've got an aswer, I don't - but I'd love it if someone did. I have the same problem after a Windows crash, or when I'm recording in my sleep and Windows Update decides to reboot. I have Googled for a repair tool but not found anything yet.
  5. I think that's a problem for NCH Technical Support - there's a link at the top of this forum. They will probably get back to you quicker than it's taken me to say I can't help, even though you haven't purchased support.
  6. Debut usually (if you haven't got a faulty version, which does happen!) remembers the settings you last used.
  7. Right-click on a blank space in the Recording Devices tab and tick as follows, that should show up whatever you have:
  8. I don't use the free version and can't imagine what's going wrong with your recordings. As you haven't had any luck with fellow users replies here, I suggest you contact NCH support, you might have to wait a few days but should get advice eventually.
  9. How frustrating when members don't post their solutions! I would say "make sure you set as default the correct recording device in sound settings" - stereo mix is best if you have it but it's not present in some sound cards, in which case Rec Playback is necessary - but then, if you reduce or mute the volume of your PC speaker the resulting recording will reflect that, so you need an external speaker plugged into the headphone jack to adjust the sound in your room without affecting the recording. Well, that's my experience with Dell Precision.
  10. I have never even seen a Mac, let alone used one. Am I interpreting your query correctly? You are trying to screen-capture video and record the broadcast sound along with it? You get no sound, but when you record the webcam+microphone it works OK? Have you been into your Mac's sound settings and set the default recording device? Then choose that device in Debut's recording settings, there should be a drop-down box in the area where you select microphone/speakers. If you can't resolve your problem I suggest you contact NCH support - even though you may not have paid extra for support, they will respond, just not as quickly.
  11. My No1 illness is ospreyitis, but I did 'meet' the ospreys via the Decorah eagles in the very first place. To say that raptors are infectious is putting it mildly! I hope you get sorted - my timeline: %HH% %MIN% %SS% gives a 24-hour clock, say: 17 44 48 (that's hours, minutes, seconds, in 24-hour clock format - I don't punctuate it, but you can).
  12. I screen-capture by that method but have never seen that error. What I do get is crashes caused by Debut drivers.
  13. I use mp4 too - it's easier to edit, as well as resulting in smaller files. 1GB/min seems outlandish though Are you screen-capturing HD? Full screen? Check your quality settings. A 30-minute recording of a non-HD screen gives me files of 160-250,000KB, depending what's going on and whether it's night (monochrome, obviously) or day.
  14. BTW, this is my recording of the same nest: I've clicked on "Follow this forum" at the top of the page, but I'm not expert enough to help with many topics, especially gaming
  15. I realise that DragonLainey's clock* is small and discreet, but have you tried using Debut's built-in clock? See this thread. Despite that clock being so 'small and discreet', I don't use one like that because of my personal need to include copyright/accreditation, which you can do with Debut. That clock might be part of the recording software DL uses, or it might be a standalone app. I never found that when I was looking for a clock, I'll keep my eye open for it.
  16. I use the original exe files to install the programs on a new machine and then enter the relevant licence numbers. If NCH thinks you've used the numbers too frequently, it usually gives you an opportunity to reactivate them via a link on their website.
  17. I have no experience with webinars. 189GB I wonder if the file was 'finalised' - can you play it? If I get a PC crash while screen-capturing with Debut, the recording that was ongoing at the time is not playable. NCH make Prism Video Converter (you may have it in the NCH folder ready for installation) which they say can compress video - you can probably use it on trial. I've never tangled with such a huge video, but nowadays I record in mp4, for ease of handling, and don't notice a very significant reduction in quality. It would still have been a huge file, just not quite as huge. A tip for the future - in Options>Recording, you can set Debut to stop and resume recording periodically, so that you never end up with an unmanageable file. You miss a couple of seconds while Debut finalises one segment and starts the next, so you may not want to set the maximum recording time for less than an hour. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y40/satissa/techie%20misc/2014-07-2720_24_07-Options_zpsa8807c13.jpg Also, the higher your quality settings the more 'heavy' the resulting video will be to handle. I found someone saying that they use a Firefox extension "Download them all" for saving webinars. If that link doesn't work you can search for it in Firefox's extension page. I can't understand why a 5-hour video should be that size, though. After all, an HD movie would only be 2-4GB.
  18. I have found that writing to NCH Support (via link at top of forum) does produce a result, even if you have not paid for support - you just won't be at the top of the queue.
  19. No I haven't had that particular problem. Usually when I'm installing and select to record from speakers, Debut says it has to reboot to install the relevant whatever-it-needs. I would uninstall, during which process you should see an option to repair/reinstall - try that? Or complete the uninstall, reboot, an reinstall from scratch.
  20. Gosh, that was a long time ago, Bryan, I'd forgotten all about it Let's hope we've helped lurkers, even if no-one posts about it.
  21. No, but I have the issue that I installed the trial version today and it's already telling me that I must pay. It's version 2.32, though, and I only downloaded it today :-/
  22. I have never used a Mac, but I wonder if you have a "Rec Playback" option available for recording in the sound settings?
  23. I don't have any clues On one of my Windows 7 HP 64-bit laptops, every time I installed Debut the whole system froze up, all I could do was power off at the button. I lost count of how many times I uninstalled it with Revo and reinstalled, always with the same result. This went on for months, then one day it just worked! The only changes to my system during that time were Windows updates.
  24. I don't *think* there should be a 15-minute limit on the free version :-/ If your version definitely has that limit, you could keep your eye on http://www.nchsoftware.com/beta/ for when a beta version becomes available.
  25. If the picture you're watching on the NBC site is good, then Debut should be fine. If I were doing it I would capture in mp4, because the quality is not much different from avi but it's not so "heavy", quicker to navigate, burn, whatever. If you haven't got Debut already, it doesn't cost anything to try it out, and the free version which it will revert to after the trial period will still do the job - but I'm not sure if you'll be able to schedule recordings, I expect not.
