  1. NCH got tired of me constantly contacting tech support because of all the bugs in their software and just issued me a refund and told me not to contact them again. I have discovered this isn’t happening in all formats. I use the free app VLC to convert to an MP3 and then I can get my full audio. Bit of a pain, but it works.
  2. Contacting NCH is useless. It's a repeated pattern of behaviour where the software works for a bit, then I make the mistake of updating and the update breaks the software that was working okay-ish. I contact support and they say, oh, there's another update for you, pay us for it. I have paid them up to four times a year over the last decade for the software to work exactly the same or worse, with no new features and often versions going backward so they could charge us to bring it back to where it was. I've contacted Australia consumer protection many times and they have been building a file, not dismissing my claims at all. I realise that now that I'm back in Windowsland, I probably have a better chance of finding a competitor product. So after sleeping on the issue, that's what I'm focusing on today.
  3. I am IRATE. I've been using the Mac version of ES for a decade. A decade of being scammed by NCH in that they would break the Mac version and then force us to pay for the next "fixed" version. They just pulled that stunt again. I now work with Windows, so I bought a full professional license for the Windows version of ES. Just went to load an 8-hour file, which the Mac version had no trouble with, and the Windows version will only load 6 hours of it. I need the whole thing to do my job properly. There has got to be some buried setting I can click to fix this, right? I didn't just get scammed by these shady developers again, did I?
  4. I'm trying to set up Express Scribe on my new Mac and the hotkeys are refusing to behave. On my old Mac, I was able to set Copy Time as simply F3. And then, I had system-wide shortcut for paste to be F4. So when I'm transcribing a document with a lot of time stamps, I could just reach up from home row, hit F3, F4, and keep going. On my new Mac, ES is refusing to let me set F3 as copy time, demanding that I add a modifier. So now, I have to do shift-F3, F4. That extra key stroke makes a difference and makes it very easy when I'm typing fast to accidentally hit shift-F4, which is fast way for Word to close without saving your work. 😡 I'm using version 7.01 of ES on both computers (because future versions of ES are broken and also have tons of missing features (already reported to ES, so not something to be "helped" with -- just FYI)).
  5. I'm so tired of how much money I give these people for increasingly buggy and featureless software with zero customer service. I was experiencing a bug with the second to last version where sound would suddenly start playing in only one ear. I confirmed that this was an ES issue rather than an equipment one. I submitted a bug report and was advised through a form letter to update to version 8, which I did. Version 8 broke "copy time," a feature that saves me a lot of time. I have it programmed correctly and it doesn't copy the time. Very likely related to that is that "copy/paste" into the notes field is now disabled! This has completely interrupted my workflow. I use that field to input the due date for jobs (since the actual due date column has never worked) so I can sort by priority. I also put in all job info so I don't have to refer back to emails and keep things in one place. And I can't even copy the name of the audio file to paste it into the "save as" field for my documents. And I still have the audio in one ear bug. Is there a Mac software developer out there interested in taking us under their wing and creating for us a truly professional-grade transcription app that lets us type into Word while controlling the audio with a foot pedal? I'll invest what I can into the project!
  6. Just upgraded to High Sierra and, as expected, Express Scribe took umbrage to that. Many areas of the app are now using the "Curlz MT" font: http://prntscr.com/h9buj5 http://prntscr.com/h9bupl http://prntscr.com/h9busm http://prntscr.com/h9buvv http://prntscr.com/h9buyf Let me guess, ES uses fonts that aren't standard on a Mac?
  7. That doesn't work. After reading finding out that some Windows users were also lacking the hot keys and resolving the issue through installation, I ended up trashing my copy of ES, redownloading, reinstalling, and reregistering. That did the trick. I now have the hotkeys and was able to set up CMD-E to copy the timestamp and then use CMD-V to paste it. Thanks for your reply. It's appalling how much I pay for this software that doesn't come with free customer support. Rae
  8. Looks like the Windows users have a way to create a hot key to easily enter time stamps. Is there a way to do this with the Mac version beyond going to Notes -- copy to clipboard -- time, and then pressing command-T in Word, which is so comically inefficient as to be useless? I've got a lot of clients now who want timestamps every 30 seconds and it takes forever to manually type them in. Thanks, Rae
  9. I'm looking for a Mac transcription app that has the following features: -can handle video files while showing the videos (so that rules out F5) -can be used with an Infinity foot pedal -enables you to enter deadlines and other information for sorting You might be thinking that Express Scribe has all these features, but it can't handle videos of any significant size without crashing. I work with 1GB video files and I can't wait half an hour for ES to decide if it's going to load the file or just crash my entire system. Surely there's an alternative transcription app out there that works and is of professional quality? I'll pay just about anything at this point seeing as I'm losing money every day I have to use ES. Rae
  10. The fact that the client, priority, and deadline columns are useless bugs me to no end, but here's a workaround if you don't normally use the Notes column: type the deadline in the notes column and then sort that way! You can even put your deadline on the first line of the notes and then write your other notes below. I type the notes in the following format: Month/Day/Year 00:00 Client Name This sorts them in order of priority by not only date but also time due on the same day. I use a 24 hour clock to make sure that 8:00 a.m. doesn't get sorted as 8:00 p.m. (If you're tired of staring at the useless columns, right click on the header columns. They will pop up with the displayed columns showing a checkmark next to them. Click on each colum that you DON'T want to use. I just display name, duration, and the notes.) Rae
