  1. It's annoying that ctrl-A / select all doesn't work, which means that adding a load of clips means ctrl+E.. release ctrl key.. down arrow.. ctrl+E.. release ctrl key.. down arrow.. ctrl+E.. release ctrl key.. down arrow.. ctrl+E.. release ctrl key.. down arrow.. etc - very RSI carpal tunnel inducing :o

    There's an easier way :

    * Click the first clip in the list

    * ctrl+shift+End selects them all!

    * ctrl+E adds the lot to the timeline

  2. Yes, it's because the Panasonic AVCHD Lite is 25 (or 29.97) fps in a transport stream marked for playback as "show each frame twice" giving 50.0 (or 59.94 depending upon region/model). If you can't find a VideoPad output option that copes well with this (and I'd have liked to use FFDSHOW but you can't change the sound from PCM or it changes away from FFDSHOW again - at least it does on the trial version?), then prior conversions are the order of the day. I convert first because I couldn't get clip-to-clip transitions working well, either when editing or in the final render. I do use FFDSHOW with PCM sound from Prism, because uncompressed sound doesn't matter for temporary AVI files which get deleted once I've "made my movie" :)

  3. I emailed this 8 days ago, but I haven't heard anything. Before I wander off and leave, I thought I might as well post it here. :

    Hi

    Just an observation or two, with good intentions -

    The VideoPad forum is starting to fill up with spam as people realise that the forums aren't policed by NCH. Can I ask if NCH would consider giving it a bit more attention, appoint moderators, or at least provide a "report spam" option?

    Also, having unanswered questions on there doesn't seem to be giving a good impression, I'm sorry to say. I'm trying my best to help, but a bit more communication from NCH wouldn't go amiss - in particular it would help if we were kept up to date about whether bugs are being tackled or fixed and when we can expect new versions, etc. It's off-putting to wonder if a product is a dead-end and not being developed any more.

    Wishing you continued success,

    Cheers

  4. Edited because this forum won't insert the JPEG screenshot I have uploaded :angry:

    Oh, we believe you :lol:

    Sorry, but until NCH starts participating in these forums or answers emails, then I'll have to assume it's abandonware and isn't being developed any more.

  5. Cheers Jack, I'm glad your titles are working now :)

    Yes, I've been using it long enough that it popped up a message the other day saying something like "Isn't it about time you upgraded?" :lol:

    I prefer to 'pay' them by spreading the word on other forums and by trying to help here.

  6. I've never seen the green star not appear - unless the clip isn't wide enough on the screen; did you try zooming in the timeline (so it scrolls rather than having the whole thing fit on screen at once) - ?

    If the green star is there, then you can go back and edit the title.

    Multi-line titles would be nice but can't be done in this version - I have tried to point that out to NCH ... but beggars can't be choosers and we should be grateful for free software that works :) (if you pay for it, then it's Caveat Emptor, especially when a trial version is provided)

    You can make a still pic with multi-line titles (in a pic editor) and use that in VideoPad as a last resort.

    The forums are a self-help facility and NCH don't necessarily have to read what goes on here - if you want an answer from them you will have to email.

    Best wishes :)

    •
    • Open the clip in VideoPad, add clip to the timeline
    • move to the point where the unwanted section starts
    • split the clip into 2 at that point
    • do the same at the end of the unwanted section, so you now have 3 clips : good,bad,good
    • click on the middle clip and press delete
    • Then Make your movie

  7. iPod -> PC

    Is there nothing in the manual about that? Sorry, I don't own one so I can't really help

    DVD -> PC -> iPod

    A home movie on a DVD should be simply a .vob file on the disc when you navigate the disc on the PC, but Prism has a DVD option so you don't need to worry about that. The question remains what format do you need to convert to, and then copy onto the iPod?

    Google found me : "As for the new iPod nano, here it is straight from Apple:

    H.264 video, up to 1.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Low-Complexity version of the H.264 Baseline Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats;

    H.264 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Baseline Profile up to Level 3.0 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats;

    MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats.

    Good luck :)

  8. If I ever outgrow VideoPad I will probably install Ubuntu (free Linux) on my D: drive (keeping C: safe from possible bootup problems) or buy a USB harddrive and install it on that. I'd rather spend money of hardware than software :P

    Then I'd get to grips with the Kdenlive and OpenShot editors. I've played with them in a VirtualBox emulator and they seem quite good. Ubuntu really is very friendly B)

    See it being installed and used here

    - well worth a try to see how you like it, doesn't cost anything.

  9. I downloaded a 7MB 8sec sample clip from http://blog.rfquerin.org/2009/04/12/the-kodak-zi6-sample-videos-and-thoughts/

    ( http://rfquerin.org/Zi6Samples/Zi6_MacroSample.MOV )

    and it plays OK in VLC player, Media Player Classic, QuickTime 7.6 but not Windows Media Player. And, like you, I can't get it to load in VideoPad either! While it appeared to convert in Prism the resulting file was too small and won't play. And it crashes VirtualDub. MPEG Streamclip plays it.

    MediaInfo says:

    Format : MPEG-4

    Format profile : QuickTime

    Codec ID : qt

    Video

    ID : 1

    Format : AVC

    Format/Info : Advanced Video Codec

    Codec ID : avc1

    Codec ID/Info : Advanced Video Coding

    Duration : 8s 541ms

    Bit rate mode : Variable

    Width : 1 280 pixels

    Height : 720 pixels

    Display aspect ratio : 16:9

    Frame rate mode : Constant

    Frame rate : 29.970 fps

    Stream size : 6.93 MiB (96%)

    Title : Ambarella AVC / Ambarella AVC

    VideoGSpot says it's 'avc1 ' 'H.264 ' and pressing the test button it won't play (MP4 Splitter --> ffdShow).

    First time I've had trouble with anything H.264 :(

    In the absence of a codec for the Ambarella flavour of AVC that could Make It So with VideoPad, you'll be stuck with converting to another format first.

  10. Seems strange that Prism can deal with it and VideoPad can't ..? :blink:

    MediaInfo ( http://www.videohelp.com/tools/MediaInfo ) is a handy util to figure out precisely what codec bitstream is within a file.

    MOV files are usually associated with Apple Quicktime, so you could try installing the free Quicktime viewer and see if that puts the right codec onto the PC so that viewers and editors can make sense of it.

    See http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/ and don't forget to untick the spammy options!

    Some people warn not to install codec packs but...

    http://www.casttv.com/video/xk6p48/kodak-zi6-k-lite-codec-to-play-mov-in-wmm-video

    "Videos taken with the Zi6 are recorded in .mov format with the H.264 codec and can either be viewed via MediaImpression or through another player like Apple Quicktime or VLC Player."
