  1. Try the freebie MediaInfo utility prog., or video GSpot and those should tell you.
  2. It's annoying that ctrl-A / select all doesn't work, which means that adding a load of clips means ctrl+E.. release ctrl key.. down arrow.. ctrl+E.. release ctrl key.. down arrow.. ctrl+E.. release ctrl key.. down arrow.. ctrl+E.. release ctrl key.. down arrow.. etc - very RSI carpal tunnel inducing There's an easier way : * Click the first clip in the list * ctrl+shift+End selects them all! * ctrl+E adds the lot to the timeline HNY
  3. Yes, it's because the Panasonic AVCHD Lite is 25 (or 29.97) fps in a transport stream marked for playback as "show each frame twice" giving 50.0 (or 59.94 depending upon region/model). If you can't find a VideoPad output option that copes well with this (and I'd have liked to use FFDSHOW but you can't change the sound from PCM or it changes away from FFDSHOW again - at least it does on the trial version?), then prior conversions are the order of the day. I convert first because I couldn't get clip-to-clip transitions working well, either when editing or in the final render. I do use FFDSHOW wi
  4. I've gotten used to converting to mp4-in-AVI with Prism (or VirtualDub) before editing in Videopad, that's just the way it is for now. Let me guess - AVCHD Lite from a little Panasonic digicam?

    Open Email to NCH

I'm glad someone replied - thanks I was kinda hoping to get some response from NCH... maybe they're away on holiday or something!
  6. I emailed this 8 days ago, but I haven't heard anything. Before I wander off and leave, I thought I might as well post it here. : Hi Just an observation or two, with good intentions - The VideoPad forum is starting to fill up with spam as people realise that the forums aren't policed by NCH. Can I ask if NCH would consider giving it a bit more attention, appoint moderators, or at least provide a "report spam" option? Also, having unanswered questions on there doesn't seem to be giving a good impression, I'm sorry to say. I'm trying my best to help, but a bit more communication fro
  7. Oh, we believe you Sorry, but until NCH starts participating in these forums or answers emails, then I'll have to assume it's abandonware and isn't being developed any more.
  8. Cheers Jack, I'm glad your titles are working now Yes, I've been using it long enough that it popped up a message the other day saying something like "Isn't it about time you upgraded?" I prefer to 'pay' them by spreading the word on other forums and by trying to help here.
  9. I've never seen the green star not appear - unless the clip isn't wide enough on the screen; did you try zooming in the timeline (so it scrolls rather than having the whole thing fit on screen at once) - ? If the green star is there, then you can go back and edit the title. Multi-line titles would be nice but can't be done in this version - I have tried to point that out to NCH ... but beggars can't be choosers and we should be grateful for free software that works (if you pay for it, then it's Caveat Emptor, especially when a trial version is provided) You can make a still pic w
  10. Open the clip in VideoPad, add clip to the timeline move to the point where the unwanted section starts split the clip into 2 at that point do the same at the end of the unwanted section, so you now have 3 clips : good, bad, good click on the middle clip and press delete Then Make your movie
  11. You don't (as far as I know) - it just converts clips as they are
  12. You just have to save the project - then you can reload it at a future date and change things, add new clips, and Create Movie all over again.
  13. iPod -> PC Is there nothing in the manual about that? Sorry, I don't own one so I can't really help DVD -> PC -> iPod A home movie on a DVD should be simply a .vob file on the disc when you navigate the disc on the PC, but Prism has a DVD option so you don't need to worry about that. The question remains what format do you need to convert to, and then copy onto the iPod? Google found me : "As for the new iPod nano, here it is straight from Apple: H.264 video, up to 1.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Low-Complexity version of the H.264 Baseline Profile with A
  14. I don't know what else to say apart from point you towards http://www.nchsoftware.com/prism/index.html where I presume you downloaded it from the first time. You'll just have to be patient for NCH to get back to you.
  15. Glad you got it sorted. You can't delete your comments or threads here, but you can edit a comment and replace it with a single line : "problem sorted out since - please remove this thread" ... and hope that a mod will do
  16. If I ever outgrow VideoPad I will probably install Ubuntu (free Linux) on my D: drive (keeping C: safe from possible bootup problems) or buy a USB harddrive and install it on that. I'd rather spend money of hardware than software Then I'd get to grips with the Kdenlive and OpenShot editors. I've played with them in a VirtualBox emulator and they seem quite good. Ubuntu really is very friendly See it being installed and used here - well worth a try to see how you like it, doesn't cost anything.

    Can anyone help?

Try a more specialist forum like http://forum.videohelp.com/viewforumlatest.php which gets right down to the nitty gritty of video technicalities. Good luck
  18. I just opened VideoPad, added a blank clip to the bare timeline, clicked the green star to add a title and it took ages for the dialog to appear. But it did, eventually!
  19. Download and run http://www.nchsoftware.com/prism/prismsetup.exe then apply the registration as you did the first time Any problems with that, sorry - I can't help - try emailing NCH direct
  20. I downloaded a 7MB 8sec sample clip from http://blog.rfquerin.org/2009/04/12/the-kodak-zi6-sample-videos-and-thoughts/ ( http://rfquerin.org/Zi6Samples/Zi6_MacroSample.MOV ) and it plays OK in VLC player, Media Player Classic, QuickTime 7.6 but not Windows Media Player. And, like you, I can't get it to load in VideoPad either! While it appeared to convert in Prism the resulting file was too small and won't play. And it crashes VirtualDub. MPEG Streamclip plays it. MediaInfo says: Format : MPEG-4 Format profile : QuickTime Codec ID : qt Video ID : 1 Format : AVC Format/Info
  21. Good idea to trade up if you can, life's too short to mess around with poor quality if that's what you reckon It's a personal choice... no offence intended but I can't say I'm that impressed by the sample http://www.vimeo.com/1564492 which is a bit wobbly from 'rolling shutter'. However, does the Zi8 still use the same codec? If all else fails, might be worth asking on http://forum.videohelp.com/viewforumlatest.php
  22. Seems strange that Prism can deal with it and VideoPad can't ..? MediaInfo ( http://www.videohelp.com/tools/MediaInfo ) is a handy util to figure out precisely what codec bitstream is within a file. MOV files are usually associated with Apple Quicktime, so you could try installing the free Quicktime viewer and see if that puts the right codec onto the PC so that viewers and editors can make sense of it. See http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/ and don't forget to untick the spammy options! Some people warn not to install codec packs but... http://www.casttv.com/video/xk6p48
  23. Can you play the file in other programs? It could be that you don't have the right codec. What camera did the mov file come from?
  24. Sounds like it's time to ask the experts at http://forum.videohelp.com/viewforumlatest.php
  25. Yes, that's a work-around that I've used. I use .bmp or .jpg at the right 1280x720 size and it's worked out OK so far.
