  1. Thank you for your response Ben. I posted in a fit of dismay, and considered deleting it, but then thought that perhaps someone might be interested in how others utilize the program. I knew I would be purchasing the current edition to use on my windows 10 machine, and have now done so. I completed the above mentioned project (and many more since) without a hitch. I do have some other issues now that I will inquire about in a new thread, once I determine that they are not solely related to my new laptop or windows 10 itself... Well, here is one that I wonder if anyone else has noticed: On my win10 laptop (Alienware 17 R3) with the current edition v6.33 the bar at the bottom of the screen (which contains the transport features, the timing displays, and zoom) is extremely small and almost impossible to read. I can only work now due to my familiarity with the program and knowing where the button I need is located. Is this perhaps something you are aware of?
  2. Beware that if you are using a trial version, it is for 'evaluation use only' ! I have been an NCH user for many years. I have purchased most of the audio software, and when I upgraded from xp to win7 I purchased all my NCH software again. I am a 'taper' - I record shows for bands I know. My main method of operation these days is to mix and edit with Audacity and export the file as .wav. I then open the file in WavePad - I am very familiar with it and enjoy using it - where I will amplify as necessary, edit between songs, split into tracks, do fades, etc. I then name and save each track. Works great for me! I recently bought a new powerful laptop with windows 10, and was doing my mixing on it and then transferring via flash drive to my win7 machine to use WavePad to finalize my project as described above. This of course is a silly work flow, so I decided to try the new version of WavePad on my laptop and see if I liked it. After a couple of hours working on a 2 hour set, I was satisfied with my edits, and began the saving all files tasks. Half-way through I get the 'trial demo version for evaluation use only' which of course wants me to purchase the software. And I am stuck not being able to save any more of my work - and that really stinks..... I will load a copy of my paid version onto the laptop - but much of the work I did today was wasted. So, sorry for the drawn out crying session. Here is what the WavePad page states: Get it Free. A free version of WavePad audio editing software is available for non-commercial use only. The free version does not expire and includes most of the features of the normal version. If you are using it at home, you can download the free version here. You can always upgrade to the master's edition at a later time, which has additional effects and features for the serious sound engineer. Which does not lead one to believe it will stop working and require a purchase............................................. edit to add: well, my version (5.1) of WavePad of course won't work with windows 10. Although I couldn't save half the files in the case above, it Did allow me to save the project... so $$$$ and I am now on my way. sorry again, just thought it was worth mentioning that the trial version wouldn't let me finish my work - I guess I should have known...
  3. If you have the WavePad program, I would suggest using that to accomplish this task. But the procedure would be pretty similar with either program. As far as terminology, you can look at a track as a complete unit, often made up of different clips. When you loaded the tracks into MixPad it stacked them vertically as separate tracks, which will play simultaneously across the horizontal timeline. This is the basic usage of a mixing program – to combine elements into one mix. It sounds like what you want to do (create one continuous track) is have one track follow another, something better suited to WavePad, but I think you can accomplish it with MixPad. Select the track that you want to follow the first track, copy [ctrl V on a pc], position the curser at the very end of the first track, and paste. Note that MixPad will identify the pasted segment as a ‘clip.’ With track one selected, choose ‘Merge Clips’ from the Edit menu. Do this for each ‘track’ in the order you desire. You can probably also just paste each clip onto the first track and then merge them all at once…(Once a clip has been added and merged to the first track, I would delete the original from the project.) Once you are satisfied with the complete new track (and done any other editing you might wish like fades, add silence, or whatever) I would first ‘Save’ the project (and it is recommended to choose a folder location of your own so you can easily find it again) and then ‘Export Project As Audio File’ – under File Menu – again to a location of your choosing. Hope that helps and makes sense.
  4. As a user of WavePad (and Audacity) in my workflow I try to learn from and/or help out with questions posed in this forum. I am trying to imagine a scenario where what you are suggesting would be useful (and I don't question your desire to do so in an efficient manner.) My process would be to work from a copy of the original, deleting unwanted sections individually as I went along. (or copying the sections wanted and pasting into a new file.) Not that this helps you much; my curiousity gets the better of me sometimes.....
  5. Just a thought (with no idea @ your experience with SoundTap, or your laptop/soundcard, or what quality of the recording deems it 'unusable') but maybe try recording audio at a lower level?
  6. That looks like a well-featured deck. I have many Tascam models (DR-680, DR-2d, DR-60D), but not this one. Take some time to learn about it; I've found the interface becomes easy to understand with trial and error. Assume you are recording from the internal mics? at any rate, make sure the mic input is set on low, and adjust the input volume on the side toggle switch as needed. There are possibly other menu settings to consider. Read the manual. and I recommend that you check out taperssection.com; there is much info there and your deck is well covered in the Recording Gear section. good luck! As noted above, a distorted ("brick-walled") recording is fairly impossible to repair. (thanks NCH for the side track. And I commend you admins for paying such good attention to the forums!)
  7. Higher resolution recording is often done when making field recordings for various reasons. While I can't exactly answer your question regarding SoundTap's higher sample rate options, I think it would be good to consider that any internet/radio stream recorded via SoundTap on a computer will be mp3 in origin, so while I will often set my streams to save as .wav 16/44.1, there is no sonic advantage to be expected. (I assume you already realize this per your above statement 'makes no sense...') If the end use is playback on an mp3 player, it makes sense just to record as an mp3 (320 CBR is what I'd recommend, although most internet/radio streams are of lesser quality)
  8. please do come back and let us know! thanks for giving it a shot...
  9. I don't think there is a way to save a 'project' with PhotoPad, which would make what you want to do easier. Instead, you will have to work from the original photo and enter the correct text again.
  10. If by 'pick up the sound' you mean 'make it louder', the tool you would use is Amplify and it is found under the Effects tab. If you wish to amplify the entire file, right click on the file, and click on "Select All." This will highlight the entire file. Then click on the Amplify button, which will bring up a dialog box, where you can select a 'percentage' of gain, then click 'Apply '. 100 % will leave your file as it is. Use a higher percentage to raise the overall volume (amplitude) of the file.
  11. I can't really help, although I recall other issues with mp3 files being posted in the past. Just curious as to what you are using MixPad to do - and if WavePad might be better suited for your needs. It could perhaps be less likely to have the same issues, although I don’t really know.
  12. To edit tracks, such as adding fades, and burn a mix cd (sounds like that is what you are trying to do) MixPad isn't the program you want. WavePad would be the appropriate program to use to apply fades. You can burn from there, or use Express Burn.
  13. Can you locate the saved project? If so, double-clicking on it should open it.
  14. It would appear that you are posting your inquiry in the wrong forum - this one is for WavePad, an audio editing program.
  15. Hey. as you can probably tell, these forums don't always get much action. I should state that I don't have much experience working with video. Sounds like a strange issue if the files play ok on the original dvd. A burning program couldn't be expected to fix synch problems (nor create them either!) If you had the original video and audio files you could work on it in a video editing program. I admit to being a bit confused here. sorry
  16. Is the background music and the microphone audio in synch?
  17. Open the program. In the 'File' dropdown menu select 'Register Software...' Enter your info exactly as it appears on the confirmation email. Hope that helps. Dan
  18. Not sure if this is relevent, but are you using the free edition?
  19. I have no experience using WavePad for such so I can't say. I don't even think I would try - that is not what the program is for. My advice would be to use NCH's SoundTap, a program specifically deisigned to record streaming audio. I often will use WavePad to work on files that I have recorded with SoundTap after the fact.
  20. You are not alone, but it isn't easy to understand what the issue is. Sorry, but Express Burn works great for me.
  21. I'm having difficulty understanding what is being reported here - I'm going to do some experimenting to see if I can duplicate the issue myself. But let me initially state: use NCH's 'Switch' to convert wav files to mp3. works like a charm! edit to add: I have putzed around loading mp3s into WavePad and can find no problems with them. My workflow/usage of the software may be quite different than yours. Can you please provide more information? Are you using WavePad to convert to mp3? What quality encoding are the mp3s? What are you doing in MixPad with your mp3s? I hate to see the program (WavePad) getting blamed when...........
  22. Your post is a bit confusing - you are trying to burn a music cd of multiple songs, yes? Here is a more detailed explanation of how to use ExpressBurn: Open the Express Burn window and select the 'Audio CD' button. You can 'open' indivdual songs (or folders) - or - drag the individual files (tracks) from their source folder into the program main window, in the order you would like them to play. You can rearrange the play order by dragging each track in the window (play order is top to bottom.) Once you have all the tracks you want (up to 79:59 minutes) and they are in the order you wish, then select the 'Burn Audio CD' at the bottom. This will open the 'Burn Audio CD' dialog box. This is where you can choose 'Finalize Disc', and Burn Session At Once to customize pause (the silence between tracks.) 2 seconds is fairly standard for a cd. best of luck - hope this helps. (ps. to be clear - it doesn't seem like you need to be using WavePad to accomplish what you are trying to do)
  23. The NCH program for this is ExpressBurn. You can set the silence between tracks (called Track Pause in the program's burn dialog box.) ExpressBurn is easy to use, similar to Roxio if I remember correctly, and well worth the purchase. You can get a free trial version.
  24. Curious as to whether you have experienced this issue when selecting the "save as" function manually? I use version 5.10, which does not include "Auto" as a save function. I generally work with .wav files, and this is the default 'save as' function for me, which I choose and then am brought to the Wave Encoder Options dialog box.
  25. Not sure if I understand your question, but if I'm not mistaken, all standard mp3 options are available to save/export a file in MixPad. I assume you are familiar with the following steps, but just in case: Under the File menu, choose 'Export Project as Audio File'. In the Export Options dialog box, choose Output File Type: mp3 and then click the 'Settings...' button to choose MP3 Encoder settings. Also - use the 'Output File' browse button to choose or create your destination folder (so you can find it)
