  1. There are many things to spur off this questioning. First off the top of my head regards

It now will not let me save any mp3 files.

Are you working with an mp3 file to start, or are you working in another format and wishing to save a file as an mp3?

  2. Any first time post that includes a link to something unrelated, with some unbeknownst joke which on the surface is only relevant to the poster, is suspect in my opinion. But hey I am often wrong. Try both programs out for free and see what suits you. Come back after you try WavePad out, and when you have more specific inquiry.

  3. Yep. Although it is difficult to appreciate the faults of a software, especially one that really serves our purpose, figuring out the workarounds to serve our goal is what we must do. Sorry if I came across wrong-headed in my reply. I suppose dragging each file independently, although not ideal or expedient (but honestly how I operate often) and in order would accomplish the task properly.?

  4. I try to keep myself from replying hereabouts for various reasons - usually because I assume the issues folks are experiencing are with a later version of the software than I utilize. But I do read through most posts in case there is something either that I can learn, or someway in my experience with the software I can help another user.

So, my first question would be as to how the files that your are dragging as a group are labeled in the first place. Common sense for me (in my workflow) is dependent on a numerical ordering, as opposed to a (random) alphabetical one. YMMV.

  5. My advice may seem obvious after the fact, and not helpful with your dilemma, but ... when editing a file never overwrite the original; at least until you are completely satisfied with the results of your efforts/experiments. When saving something you have worked on, choose 'Save File As' (giving it an appropriate name such as 'edit 1' or something) instead of 'Save File" (which will overwrite the original.) (I find it extremely helpful to create a folder and keep all files for the project within it)

  6. After you have finalized your mix in audacity, I would propose that you 'export audio' to your desired project folder, and use WavePad for final editing such as splitting tracks, fades, etc. I mean, since you have already purchased WavePad, I would encourage you to try using it. There are things that I find easier to do in either program that has my work flow utilizing both.

  7. When you click "Save File As", the 'Save Audio File As' window opens.

Here you choose the file's name and destination, and in the 'Save as type:' dropdown choosing MPEG Layer-3 (*.mp3) and clicking the 'Save' button will open the MP3 Encoder Options dialogue box. This is where you choose the attributes you want.

  8. I'm not sure what you mean by 'cuts', but are you zooming in to look closely at the waveform to determine where you wish to make such an edit?

Also, I guess I don't have any idea to which you are referring, because never have I had few/or any seconds of silence playing a file in WavePad.

Are you perhaps working with an mp3 file? Just an anecdotal inquiry....

  9. In all my years using WavePad and splitting large tracks into smaller ones I have never used any bookmarks; I always use the 'Split File at Cursor' function. This creates a new track and I work my way through from there. After any final editing I then rename and choose a save to destination.

I don't know if this might help you with your issue though!

  10. First off, man you should have recorded that music in a better format than mp3! What were you thinking?!

And why the reproduction protection for your own recordings, on your own computer? (sorry to poke you with that after all this time)

Second, are you using a mac or pc? (mainly because the terminology and processes might vary)

NCH's Switch software proposes to be able to convert .cda files.

Have you tried extracting the files from the cds via any other method (I again refer back to inquiring about your platform - mac/pc)

I've been using Wavepad Editor Non-commercial for Home use for a while now. My old computer is not working anymore and I had to buy a new computer. But, the Non-commercial version I installed on the new computer says, "Trail version expired" after two days. Why is it complaining all of a sudden when I am using for Non-commercial Home use?

Is your computer an upgrade - ie: windows 7 to windows 10, or something similar to that scenario?

Well then you might just have to bite the bullet and purchase an upgrade to the software.

My exports keep freezing at 60% complete, making this software unusable. Left my laptop on all night and it's still stuck at 60%...

RC I believe you are referencing an issue you are experiencing with VideoPad - not WavePad?

  13. gosh, I wish folks would make their own post to inquire, complain, compliment or whatever about the software.

Every time I see this return I feel regret; not with the program, but with my original post.

"I was unable to save the .wpp file as a .mp3 file"  I'm not sure why or exactly what you mean, but the .wpp extension refers to saving the 'project'.

If you have a file open in WavePad, you can choose 'Save File As' and specify the folder destination, give it name, and choose the file type (Save as type)

While I won't get into comparisons with audacity on this forum, I do find both programs useful in my workflow and regularly use them in conjunction.

No worries about expiring licenses - if you have purchased the software it is recommended to retain your id /license info just in case, or for transferring to another computer. Note that if you are upgrading your system you may have to repurchase the appropriate version (ie. when I left behind my windows 7 for a windows 10 machine I needed to upgrade)

ps. I would certainly not qualify nch software as 'expensive', unless perhaps you are comparing it to 'freeware'.

    ❤️ Dan
