  1. I can log in to my voicemail but regardless of browser, I can not listen to the messages because I am told a plugin is required.  i know how to install a necessary plug in in Windows but not with Android.

Anybody check their voicemail on a smartphone?

  2. This is with a Way2Call USB Hi-Phone Lite which is a device I have had good luck with. Something is not too smooth w Win7/64. There is a totally unpredictable pause after a key press before the next wav. file, (mailbox greeting and instructions) plays. Dead air could be nothing or 15 seconds. Likewise the beep signifying now you can leave your message. So I had an unused little netbook lying around with only 1 gig of ram, 1.6 dual core processor, etc. etc., -- hardly state of the art hardware -- and running Windows XP. It is dedicated to the IVM software and nothing else so no security issues. I do use Web access to it, but I closed every port except the one for IVM's message server. File and print sharing, etc. is turned off. So far flawless and no timing issues -- unlike the box with an almost virgin install of Win 7/64 bit and far superior hardware.

I don't know if its the IVM software doesn't play well with Win7/64 or the Way2Call drivers. I did try a different USB modem I use with my anti-telemarketer software and I never got it to work with IVM at all.

    So XP lives!

  3. People complain that IVM cut them off, I look in the log and see "message discarded because it was too short" with a time of 0.0 seconds. Highly intermittent and hard to duplicate. I messed with every setting under the sun and even bought a new Way2Call USB telephony device to no avail. The problem would not occur with countless test calls, seem to be fixed and then come back randomly. But I had an epiphany! In order to be able to instantly shut down IVM when I chose to pick up the phone from a customer I wanted to talk with immediately, I assigned touch-tone key "8" to immediate hang-up. "8" should be grayed out in the choices for key press commands because it is very close in pitch to the "beep" that signifies now you leave your message. But it is not quite close enough to shut down IVM consistently! So I simply assigned immediate hang-up to "6." The "leave your message at the sound of the beep.." beep is the default wav/ file that came with the program. Of course, a person could re-record this wav. file with a bell, buzzer or anything else that doesn't emulate a key press.

  4. I upgraded to 4.03 and still cannot add anymore junk callers to the blacklist despite being told by NCH that the list would accept as many entries as I wanted.

As it stand now I have to delete a junk caller to add one. Will this ever be fixed or do I need to get junk caller software elsewhere?

  5. I purchased a license about 1.5 years ago. I had to reformat my pc and now I don't have my IVM software.

I have the key/id code information, but it seems I need to download the same version that I had. Where can I get it... anyone know?

    Thanks

Just google "NCH IVM download." There are lots of shareware/trial software download sites with older versions.

I am guessing you want 3.07 (??) If you can't find it -- but you should be able to -- I think I have a copy still.

NCH only keeps the latest versions for download.

  6. I have been building a list of telemarketers to block. Unfortunately the list appears full and I can't type in any more.

I really don't want to take any of these scumbags off the blacklist.

I am using 3.07. If anybody knows a way around this problem I would appreciate it.

FWIW I wish the programmers had a friendlier way to enter blacklist numbers in the first place.

A drop-down list with a space for a description of the banned caller would be nice.

The current format makes the list extremely awkward to manage.

  7. Nice software, works great.

But one mayor issue I don't understand..........

If somebody calls in, IVM will answer the call and start OGM. If I decide in the middle of the OGM to answer the call myself, how can I disengage IVM?

Just assign hangup function to a key. I push "8" to make IVM hangup.

  8. I downloaded and setup the trial version of IVM 4.01. It works great and does exactly what I need it to, however, I have two issues that I need to be able to resolve before purchasing the program.

First, I am trying to use the program to simulate having a caller on hold in a queue. I have an OGM that just plays a long file that makes it sound like you are on hold with music, it plays for 15 minutes and then goes to a mailbox. The problem is that if the caller hangs up before it gets to the mailbox the IVM doesn't detect that the caller hung up, so the phone line just stays busy until it goes through to the mailbox and records a blank message. I am using this with a standard analog phone line from Verizon. Is there a better voice modem card that will detect the end of call better than the one I am currently using (smartlink 56k voicemodem), or is there some setting I can ghange in the program to fix this? I have already tried the two end of call detect checkbox settings, but they didnt help. I have also turned up the record detect level, but that didn't help either.

Second, when I am on the phone and a call comes in through call waiting, IVM answers the call, even though I am in the middle of another call. Is there a way to fix that?

Unless you get a real telephony device -- perhaps a Dialogic card, or the Way2Call USB, you will have problems. PC modems that double as voice do not do voice well at all. I bought a Dialogic card from some surplus dealer and it works flawlessly. I used to use a Way2Call phone device but something happened with the telco and the Way2Call no longer read caller ID. Before that I tried many voice modems but NONE were reliable.

  9. I am considering purchasing IVM for a small dental practice. Our desire is to record multiple greeting messages and then select which one answers. More specifically these are the basic scenarios:

    1. Line 1 and 2 are busy during business hours. The greeting would state "We are helping patients. Please leave a message and we will return your call as soon as possible.

    2. The office is closed. The greeting would state: " We are closed and will reopen on Thursday at 7:30 AM. Please leave a message and we call you when the office opens. If this is an emergency, Call Dr. William at XXX-XXX-XXXX."

The receptionist will select the appropriate greeting. We are attempting to avoid recording multiple messages every day.

Thank you all for your assistance. Mike

    :)

This can be done. There is an option to select number of rings and message according to business hours. See option "auto-hours." Set for 10 rings or so during business hours and should the receptionist not get to the call even after ten rings you use one selected message. After hours set to 4 rings and use a different message. For holidays you will have to manually change to a special Christmas vacation message or whatever. All outgoing messages can be saved and simply reloaded. You do not have to re-record every time.

  10. I appreciate the ability to block callers by caller ID. However, typing them into the little window is awkward to say the least and there is no easy way to identify the numbers if you wished to edit the list. It would be nice if a box would open up to manage the blocked caller list with columns for both the phone #s and a description so callers could be added or removed from the blacklist easily.

  12. Current configuration:

Dell Dimension 8400 with PCI 2.3, which supports 3.3v.

Clean wwindows XP Professional SP2 fully updated

    Callurl 4lv

    1. System freezes at various points in the callurl installation. Most common problems are (a) installation program will stop responding at very end of "status" and will essentually prevent any other program from running even taskmanager.

    2. Upon any unsuccessful or successful installation, XP will freeze or take forever on bootup splahs screen.

    3. Once, if past, the splash screen XP gets stuck loading personal settings.

    4. Once, if past, the user login XP runs extremely poorly or does not respond at all.

    5. IVM is even worst because splahs screen will freeze on bootup and lock every other program out.

What is the problem... I've done a complete clean install of XP with nothing else installed but the CallURL card and the IVM program.

I could never make that board work either.

  13. Can anyone tell me how much better a telephony board really is over a good voice modem?  My relatively old Zoom modem (sorry, don't have the exact model on hand) delivers terrible voice quality.  However, I'm a little skeptical about a $300 device being that much better.

Has anyone actually tried a Telephony card and seen the difference?

I use a Way2Call telephony device. Before I got it I had tried a great many voice modems and none were really satisfactory at all. The Way2Call USB device givex excellent sound quality and always knows when to and when NOT TO hang up.

Can they produce voice as good as any person talking on the phone?  (That's where I'd put the bar for $300)

    The Way2Call does.

In particular, I'd really like to hear from anyone who's used the telephony board that NCH recommends:

    http://www.nch.com.au/hardware/telephony.html

It's probably the one I'd get since they recommend it.

I could not get it to work at all and returned it.

  14. The phone number is 11 separate digits 6-5-0-2-5-3-1-2-1-2 not a single number such as six billion five hundred and two million five hundred thirty one thousand two hundred and twelve.

Having this announced is worthless. By the time I figure out what number just dialed from across the room, the caller has already left a message and moved on. With having the dashes work as seperation, there is a fighting chance that we can understand the number. I personally just turn it off all together and use a seperate speaking caller ID box designed to announce the number correctly.

CID is formated for reading not speaking. I understand the complexity of seperating numbers from names to announce correctly, so I assume this was just an extra feature somebody through in and is not a key feature. However, a little effort to confront this issue would have been nice.

THe problem is with the text-to-speech engine and how it reads nmbers. you are probably using the default Microsoft text-to-speech engine. Uninstall it and try another.
