I've been having this (and similar problems with FTP settings) in NCH Express Dictate for over a year now. Versions come and go, but the problem persists. Having to regedit every client PC to get simple basic software working is a pain in the ass.

 

My suggestion is this - take the damn "confirmation" code out of ED completely. I don't need it to tell me if the address is valid.

You're right, I've just posted this workaround to help other users like me but of course, NCH Team still have to correct this stupid bug !!

Finally, I've found a way to make it works with the latest ED version.

What I've done is simple :

1- Find a PC where ED install went fine (my own PC which is only member of a network workgroup and not a domain)

2- Export the whole ED registry branch (HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\NCH Software\Express) using regedit

3- Copy the reg file on the not-working PC (probably a PC which is member of a domain)

4- Edit the reg file to change the paths (BackupFolder, WorkingDataFolderPrevious, WorkingDataFolder)

5- Import the reg file

6- Done

Same problem for me, it appears on Express Dictate but also on Express Scribe.

One interesting thing is that the problem occurs with some PCs but not for all.

Only difference I saw is relative to network configuration :

Working : Win7 x64 Pro / Workgroup (no domain)

Not Working : Win7 x64 Pro / Domain (Windows 2003 domain controller)

Workaround I've found is installing Express Dictate on the Win7 X64 which is not member of a domain, configuration went fine.

Then I go to --> start menu --> regedit --> export the configuration key (HKCU\Software\NCH Swift Sound\Express\SendTo1)

Finally, I have to import the reg file to the Win7 x64 PC (member of a domain) and then it works !!

However, this procedure doesn't work with the latest version but it's ok with ED 5.24

I don't know why it doesn't work with the latest ED 5.54, only difference I've noticed is in the registry, latest version use HKCU\Software\NCH Software\Express\SendTo1 instead of HKCU\Software\NCH Swift Sound\Express\SendTo1

But if I import the reg key in HKCU\Software\NCH Software\Express\SendTo1, ED ignore it and ask me to create another one and I get back to the awful popup "invalid email address"

'hope it helps NCH Team because I've just buy another ED licence and I can't use the latest version (fortunately I have a ED 5.24 backup)

Where can we setup Pocket Dictate to send direct to express delegate? All of our dictations take place over the local LAN and I have no need to use email, iTunes, or FTP to transfer. Why isn't Express Delegate included as an option in the current Pocket Dictate App?

With the help of NCH Technical Support, we've managed to make FTP working over 3g.

We've simply had to uninstall / reinstall Pocket Dictate from iPhone and then problem solved.

EDIT : After a few more tests, it appears that sending dictations via FTP over 3g works 10% of the time, so it's not really usable.

It works when using a Wifi Access.

 

Error message is :

"FTP server is OK, unable to logon..."

 

Any idea ?

Windows 7 / Dragon Naturally Speaking 9.51 / Express Scribe 4.36 (found on a Chinese Website) --> Works great + I am able to use Express Delegate with this version

I would like to use the speech-to-text feature of Express Scribe, i've never been able to make it work...since I give a try with an old version of ES (4.01) and then suddenly it starts to do the job.

Here's what works and what doesn't work, all tests have been made with the same Dragon User Profile and the same dictation file.

Windows 7 / Dragon Naturally Speaking 10 / Express Scribe 5.01 --> natspeak.exe process starts and then stop after 30 sec., nothing is pasted in notes

Windows 7 / Dragon Naturally Speaking 9.51 (XP SP3 compatibility mode) / Express Scribe 5.01 --> natspeak.exe process starts, nothing in notes

Windows XP SP3 (vmware / Dragon Naturally Speaking 9.51 / Express Scribe 5.01 --> natspeak.exe process starts, nothing pasted in notes

Windows XP SP3 (vmware) / Dragon Naturally Speaking 9.51 / Express Scribe 4.01 (can't find a version 4.37) --> Works perfectly...but no Express Delegate Integration

Same for me here under Windows 7, the process ends 30 seconds later regardless of the duration.

I've tried to run Dragon Naturally Speaking in Windows XP (SP3) Compatibility Mode (and check Run As Administrator), now the Dragon Process seems to work fine but no transcript appears.

Did you find a solution ?

Sorry for disturbing the Delegate forum section but there is no Web Dictate sub-forum.

I've just give a try to Web Dictate and I like it, works very well but right after login, there is a webpage with :

- Actions (Record new dictations, etc.) ---> ok, this is what we need

- Related software (Links to download Express Scribe, Dictate, etc.) ---> not needed and my users won't like it

So, if we choose to buy a Web Dictate licence, will these ads/sponsored links be removed ?

As an alternative, is there any way to go directly to http://myserver/existinglist instead of http://myserver/controlpanel ?

Is there any way to translate Express Scribe ?

I've found an old version which is well translated in french but it doesn't work with Express Delegate (too old version).

Like me, my users do not really speak english and even if using Scribe is not so hard, it would be great if we could translate it.

As long as there is no "check all" button in Express Delegate, I would recommend the use of this little firefox extension :

One you've installed it, you've got a new option to simply select all the checkboxes, right-clic and choose "check all".

Much faster than checking boxes one by one.

If a typist download a dictation directly from Delegate by clicking on the link in the "Recording" column, then she transcript, mark it as done and dispatch, the dictation remains in the "Assigned" list and is not in the "Finished" list...

I was thinking I could use the web interface as an "always" up-to-date joblist for the typist pool and let them choose which dictation to transcript, but unfortunatly the dispatch function didn't work this way.

There are no "magic" URL's, that I know of.

 

These both sound like good suggestions though. I recommend you use the "Send improvement suggestion or feedback" link in the Help menu of Delegate's main window to submit them through official channels, to make sure they're not lost. Preferably one idea per submission.

Why do you need to assign the same dictations to both typists? If it's a work-around for Express Delegate assigning dictations to typists who aren't ready then I suggest you take a look at the new version of Express Delegate that was released yesterday (v 4.01). The method of assigning dictations to typists has been tweaked so that dictations are no longer assigned to typists until they "ask" for one (eg. when Syncing in Scribe).

 

Assuming you only need one transcript for each dictation then you can use one account per typist, add them to the same typing pool, and create a rule to assign any incoming dictations to that typing pool. Then let Delegate divide the work up between the two typists automatically. Or do your typists have special criteria for deciding who types which dictation?

Great news about Express Delegate new release !!!

In fact, your suggestion on how to make it works is almost perfect for us except one thing : my two typists would like to know the amount of work they have for the day. In order to do this, I could gave them a link to express delegate url (http://ip:port/list-all-dictation) to see how many dictations is still pending.

So they will have two windows :

- one with express scribe to download dictations from express delegate, one at a time.

- another one to express delegate's web url to check how many dictations are on server side (they will have to refresh the page to update the list)

It's quite good, but I know they gonna tell me that it's a little boring to deal with two windows instead of managing all the dictations in express scribe.

The best way for us : being able to see within express scribe all the dictations pending on server and select which one they want to download by double-clicking (for example, according to priority)

Anyway, i'm gonna configure the new express delegate like you suggest, it's much better than before.

Ok, here's the problem : i need my two typists to get all the dictations from our 3 speakers.

So, if we are using express delegate and if my typists are using the same ID --> they receive all the dictations, but once a dictations is dispatched (finished), it is not removed from the second typist's list whenever she perform a new sync. So typist 2 is not informed of which dictation she has to transcibe.

Now, if we are using a FTP server and if typists are using the same username and folder --> the first typist that do a sync receive all the dictations and Express scribe remove the dictations from the server, so there is nothing left for the second typist...

So, how about an option in Express Scribe to remove dictations on server side only when the dictations are marked as done ?

- For example, there is no "check all" button to select all the finished dictations and delete. I don't need to keep it because typists are using another software to store and manage transcripted dictations.

- As an alternative if there is no way to easily clean the database, is there any url that we could use to access only "transcribing dictations", I l mean that server dictation url is http://ip:port/dict-list-all, is there any http://ip:port/dict-list-transcribing ?? (ok, i've tried this one and it does not exist but maybe nch team have a magic url ?

after 30 days the list would be LONG and the page might take some time to load - in order to keep it fast it should either limit the number displayed with arrows to move back and forth between "pages" or provide a search ability.
