I can burn using the GUI, but not using the command line. All the other threads in this forum that pose the same question seem to be unanswered. In particular the "-drive" option has been reported by more than one person as not working. It would be nice to have a definitive answer as to whether the command line interface is supported or not.

The second time I burnt the DVD it verified much more quickly.

I just burnt a DVD. The burn was pretty quick but the verification phase took ages, at least half an hour. It did eventually finish, and the DVD produced was a good one.

I have the same problem burning a data DVD. The problem occurs when I have folders. If I have no folders, just all the files in a flat structure, it works OK. I may be able to live with that limitation, but would prefer not to.
