I'd buy this product if the vst effects worked.

I filled out the software survey... straightforward.

Here's my "straightforward":

I like the product, but unless I can get a simple answer from

someone at NCH in regard to why the VST effects have a

blockout panel over them, I'd either have to assume it's

a non-functional item, or requires registration.

Considering there is no unpaid customer support, and I

am willing to pay for the product, if it works as advertised

I'd advise a response, or you lose a potential customer.

Barring a reponse, I'd HAVE TO assume non-functionality, and

not purchase it.

Hi leighm:

Welcome to the forum. I'm not connected with the WAVEPAD company -- just another "user" -- so if I'm off base here, anyone in authority is welcome to step up and set the record straight.

As I understand it, the "trial" version in not "crippled" in any way during the two-week trial period, and anything that doesn't work in the "trial edition" probably won't work if you upgrade to the "paid" version.

Now having said that, I must admit I have not messed around with the VST effects -- I don't know what they are supposed to do. But, I can tell you how my version behaves. When I click on EFFECTS -> VST PLUGINS, a little window opens which prompts me for a "DLLs Folder." Are you getting this little window? If you are, tell me what plugin you are trying to use, and where you downloaded it from, and I'll try it on my copy and let you know what happens.

Hi Leighm,

If you are willing to purchase the Master's Edition of WavePad with support on the assumption we can get it to work, please purchase then put in a support request attaching the plugin in question. I will authorise refund in full if we cannot help you to get it working. Just refer to this post.

Hi Jerry,

I do see the dll folder setup and it is pointed to where the

effects are located. I didn't try the effects till the trial ran

out so I can't offer any insight as to whether the situation

with the blockout panel pre-existed.

It's the same with all of the effects. A blockout panel

over the controls and the OK/Cancel buttons are

inactive... But not the 'X' on the toolbar.

I'm also wondering whether the folder location might

be part of the problem despite the ability to point the

software towards the folder. I tried putting the dlls

loose in the WavePad folder, and also tried putting

them in the NCH Swift Sound/Components folder.

No luck.

The effects are a full rack of VST Classic effects (free) from:

www.kjaerhusaudio.com/classic-series.php

They are very easy to use, look and handle just like

standard audio effects. Their premium stuff is beautiful

and VERY expensive, I guess that's the price that one

pays for 0 latency time thru the effect. But the VST

Standard series is free for the taking.

Hi leighm:

I'll repeat -- I've never used VST effects before, so I'm kind of groping around in the dark -- but here's what happens on my WavePad v2.10:

I downloaded the free "Classic Reverb" plugin from here:

http://www.kjaerhusaudio.com/classic-reverb.php

unzipped it, and put the DLL file in its own folder.

Then, I loaded a WAV file into WavePad, selected an area to which I would apply my effect, clicked on

EFFECTS -> VST PLUGINS

and a little window opened. I browsed to my new VST folder, and "Classic Reverb" showed up in the VST PLUGIN field.

Then, I clicked on SETTINGS, and a new window opened showing mostly a big gray box, but I could see a little of the Classic Reverb GUI around the edges. The window's OK and CANCEL buttons were both "grayed out." The remaining window controls were (1) "?" (clicking on it did nothing), (2) "Minimize" (worked OK), (3) "Full Screen" (grayed out) (4) "X" (clicking on it closed the window).

The VST Plugin window now was visible again. I clicked OK, and a "thermometer" window opened, showing me "something" was working. When it closed, I saw the selected portion of the waveform get smaller. I listened to the selected portion, but did not hear any reverb.

Leighm, I think you've found a bug, and I think we're all just going to have to wait here until one of the official WavePad gurus spots this thread and tells us what we're doing wrong.

Regards,

Jerry

Hi,

I am Craig macLeod and work for NCH Swift Sound. I have confirmed there is a bug in WavePad with the use if the VST Plugin dialogue in our current version 2.10.

I will correct this and ensure it is fixed for the next release. If you are urgent for a fix please contact me on

craig at nct.com.au

Where at = @ and no spaces. I will send you a beta version once I have corrected the issue

My problem is worse. When I try to use vst plugins, I tell the program which directory the plugin resides (wavepad vst plugin folder) and it recognizes it. But, when I try to use the settings, wavepad crashes. I have e-mailed Craig and hope he can fix this for me.

The latest version of Wavepad displays VST plugins appropriately, but I have yet to find a single plugin that modified the sounds as it advertized in Wavepad, the results all seem garbled noise, no matter which plugin a tried. Since I don't have another application to test the plugin against, I don't know if this is a plugin problem or a Wavepad problem. I'd love to get my hand on a plugin that actually works in Wavepad, perhaps this is a plugin standard issue I don't know.

I tried the Classic Eq and the Compressor. They display, but but EQ resets to flat on the setting window's close, and the Compressor's knobs go to the default(?) hard left. Therefore, I'd expect nothing to happen with the EQ, and indeed that's true... I didn't try the hard left settings on the compressor, I could only imagine it would sound bad.

WavePad Tech department also note:

VST effects come with presets, which aren't visible in WavePad's setting window.

Getting closer though.... ;)
