Large disparity in volume

There is a large disparity in volume

One side of a recorded conversation has a very low volume : mine is OK, but the other on is very low sound.

There is a large disparity between different parts of the recordings,

I tick the "use automatic level (gain) control" item from the recordings tab of settings.

I do not use a call recording adaptor: I am in VOIP (Internet/ADSL).

What can I do for resolve this problem ?

Is my sound card wrong ?

P.S. I 'am going to realise that software is maybe just a recording of the area and that the reason when you hear file, you understand all noises around, but not the answering people on the phone !

I had a similiar problem. It turned out that the cable I was using was not a straight RJ11, but a crossover cable. Once I changed the cable it worked great.
