Videopad automatically scaling a video?

Hi, i've been using videopad for a good while now, but i've run into a strange problem. It's like this; I have two video files; One is 1920x1080, the other is 300x300. The preview is set to 1920x1080, and i plan on exporting the video in that size too. The 1920x1080 video is meant to be the background while the 300x300 is supposed to be on top of it. When i place it on the timeline however, videopad stretches it out. It's still a perfect square, but it's now so big that the top and bottom of the video touches the top and bottom of the sequence preview.

I get why it does this, but is there a way to stop it from doing this? As in, make it so that when said video is placed on the timeline, it will only take up 300x300 pixels out of the screen. Obviously, i've tried scaling it down with video effects, but when i do that, new black bars sourround the video on all sides that i have to crop out, plus the quality drops an insane amount.

Does anyone have a clue on how i can fix this?

An update to the latest should correct the issue.  For licensed users upgrades are free for up to six months from purchase date.  After that, VP will continue to fully function but a fee will be required in order to register the newest.  Retain your old install file and registration info.

If that's not in the cards, please reveal what version is being used.  Share the project (not the export) and someone will be glad to take a look.  It's easy, quick and can be private.

If it contains sensitive material link it in a personal message (PM).  Click the envelope above.  It won't be passed on or retained.  Use FILE|SAVE PORTABLE PROJECT AS, not simply SAVE PROJECT, and don't forget to share it.

Seeing normal behavior with the latest version.  Despite being 300 x 300, as contrasted with the 1280 x 720 background, the smaller overlay will fill the preview screen.

Just scale and position it.

This should not result in black bars.  Looks good here.   Snapshot - 1.png

Thats strange. When i scale it down, it loses a whole lot of quality. I mean, i get that a 300x300 video will never look quite crisp and perfect, but when i scale it down within Videopad it feels like it loses a bunch more quality. Then again, this might be an issue with my graphics on the pc i'm using.

Anyway, thanks for the help. It just seemed strange that the video would just scale up like that by itself. If i load in a 300x300 picture file, it doesn't do any scaling by itself.

If the 300 x 300 is loaded by itself, it fills the frame top-to-bottom, but there's no apparent quality loss in scaling it down.  Check the exported file.

Click the FX button at the left-bottom of the clip on the timeline and in the Aspect Ratio Conversions area click on LETTERBOX.

This may help you achieve the desired result.  Also be sure that your video drivers are up to date.
