Can't open vpj files

I've read the stream from another user. He had to start his project over. My problem is I have about 50 videos of my children that I thought would copy these precious videos. Now I can't view them. Same computer, I did spend the money to purchase the latest version of Video pad editor and also purchased the Prism to convert some of the videos. Neither program works now with the vpj files. Looks like a waste of money. So many programs out there you can still see the previous project with the new version. Evidently not with NCH programs. They keep wanting your money every change they make. I think I'm done with them unless someone can do better than the last guy.
