Jhald
Using Wavepad v 8.13 - unregistered While I was editing a sound file, the following happened abruptly: Left Tool Menu appeared ( I did not knowingly do anything to open it ) Editing window turned pink/red Numbers indicating file length on bottom changed from min/sec to 8 digit numbers Also resulting in: Play button - does not play - a window pops up indicating ~ "Please check for the correct sound device" ( I had not changed device, and play had been functioning fine) Attempting to 'Save' - will not save - Error Window - "Unable to create file ... for saving." (this file was previously saved, reopened and saved multiple times prior during editing. ) Upon trying several things to fix the condition, now center sound wave line is straight and green. Opening and looking in WavePad Options - Now trying to close any tab gets popup. "Wavepad Sound Editor cannot open this file, File does not exist or may have been corrupted" What can I do to fix this... hopefully without losing the file I have put a lot of time into? Thanks, John
Gekker
Try deleting the cache folder named "WavePad" at C:\Users\<YourUserName>\AppData\Roaming\NCH Software\WavePad\ restart WavePad and open your project file. If you keep having issues, send screenshots of the pink/red editing window through a support ticket at http://www.nch.com.au/support/index.html
Jhald
Well, I left everything open waiting for a reply here, and the next day it caused the entire PC to crash. Was a weird crash, not a blue screen or anything I have seen before, the desktop icons were gone, the Drive showed No activity, and there was a partially formed Crash Report popup. It pointed to being about WavePad because the 'Will not save' popup came coming up when I clicked on most anything, and several other issues... the program was not on the screen but showed active on the tab bar. So I had to restart to get anything to function. Now when clicking on shortcut icon to open WavePad the following popup comes up... “This file does not have the same version as this version of WavePad or it is corrupted.' When I click OK, the program opens, it appears ok, and I can open the project I was working on when it crashed. I did lose all the editing I hade done. ... now this is odd, as I'm typing here, with WavePat open also, the functions with typing were erratic, so I closed WordPad... and now I can type just fine. OK, I deleted the folder as you advised, and the program opened without the popup I referred to here. I opened WordPad again, and the typing functions got weird again. Should I just uninstall and reinstall the program?

Jhald
I found the Home version and installed that, was using it for a while, then the WavePad window started flashing and for a few split seconds it flashed with a pink screen. I noticed hearing the PC hard drive working so I figured something was processing more than it had been. I had Firefox open in the background, so I closed it because I know sometimes it bogs down (don't ask how many tabs were open), and the flashing stopped. Then I was able to Save what I was working on and continue on with no issues. So... It appears there may be some conflict with WavePad and Firefox. This may have been what caused the first issue, though it was abrupt. I will not have Firefox open when using this program! And once I'm sure this program will provide what I need I will purchase the full version. If you have anything to add to this, please do. Gekker
In that case, gather some screenshots of the " “This file does not have the same version as this version of WavePad or it is corrupted." error message and anything worth noting and report it through a support ticket at http://www.nch.com.au/support/index.html so a bug report can be filled out. That error has not come up again. As I noted above, I think I must not have Firefox open when I use WavePad. The PC seems to periodically do something with Firefox that causes an interference with WavePad.
