Restoring a back-up to a New Business, causing deletion

I tried to restore a backup file to a " New business " (to check its content) before restoring to the company file.

The restored file deleted the Company file.!! The New Business file disappeared. I tried this once more, the same result.

Worryingly and clearly a disaster my company file has been deleted.
