.au to .wav conversion

Using a tape recorder and Audacity I saved voice tape data to my hard drive. The files saved are in .au format. I want to convert this format to .wav so that I can burn the files to CD-R. When I try to convert using Switch, I get an error message "cannot open the file____because it is corrupt"'

I am new to NCH Switch and would appreciate help to accomplish the above. I also would like to know the following:

1. Can I burn the .au files directly to CD-R using an app. such as Nero. Will Nero automatically convert the files to .cda?

2. Can Switch actually convert the .au files to .wav?
