  1. Laughing your ass off? F--- you. If you think I was making up the complaints I had, you're an idiot. I've used Wavepad 4.52 on a different computer with a different OS and the true bugs I complained about didn't happen. But I still think Wavepad was best at the 3.12 version. Actually it was nicer to use at 3.05, but 3.05 would limit files to a bit depth of 16. Since version 4.0, Wavepad has been less precise, though maybe more "consumer friendly". It's more like a toy now and less like a pro tool. I still hate how it doesn't remember equalizer settings, and how the amplifier and some other things are set in increments of 4% now rather than 1%. A big bonus now though is you can tweak the equalizer as a preview of the file plays. But dammit I wish it could remember the settings. Instead, it just wipes the slate clean as soon as you apply the settings to the file Anyway, go back to laughing your ass off.
  2. I found 3.12!!!!!! I also got a copy of 2.10 in the process. So I can give you 2.10, 3.05, 3.12, or 4.00 (free versions). Do you have 3.11? If so, please send me an e-mail.
  3. Wavepad can't do it. A few specialized programs do it by removing information between the right and left channels that is the same, while leaving information that is different between the channels. The program may leave in the bass frequencies that are below vocal range. Then a mono file is created from adding together the information between the left and right sides (just leaving the left and right in stereo results in a very hollow sound). Then a stereo effect can be added to this mono file by putting the left and right sides of the mono file out of phase by like 25 ms (can vary). This works because songs are often mixed so that instruments are different or out of phase on the left and right sides, while the voice is the same on the left and right sides. But most of the time the result isn't that great from these voice remover programs. But it's OK sometimes. You could try Blaze Audio. It does all of the steps I mentioned and worked OK for me: http://www.blazeaudio.com/products/singnburn.html On the other hand, you might be able to find a high-quality karaoke track on this site: http://www.karaoke-version.com/ Quality varies, but it's probably usually better than what you'll get from using a voice removing program on an MP3. Try both and see which is better.
  4. I don't think so, or at least the older versions couldn't split the channels. What you can do is use a free program called Audacity to split the channels into 2. You have to click on file properties or something to find the split function. Then you can save each channel as a mono file and work with them in Wavepad, which is a nicer program in most ways (or it was before the messed up 4.52 version was released). E-mail me if you want an older version of Wavepad which works better.
  5. I can e-mail you 3.05 or 4.00 (only the free editions, of course). I'm most interested in 3.12, followed by 3.11, followed by any 2.xx version. I searched the Internet for 3.12 and 3.11 and couldn't find them. All the pages that listed them as downloads actually sent the file for 4.52. I'm interested in 3.12 because I used it before and I THINK it could edit files in 24 or 32 bits (whereas 3.05 is limited to 16 bits). Version 3.12 seemed almost like my beloved 3.05, except it was sluggish with copying & pasting, so I wasn't interested in it at the time. However, if I ever want to try pro recording, the extra bit depth might be desirable. And I'd prefer 3.12 to any of the 4.xx versions because I've tried 4.00 and 4.52 and they are INFERIOR to 3.05. The worst is 4.52!!! I can't believe NCH took a beautiful program like 3.05 and f-ed it up. Version 4.52 can do a few things 3.05 can't, but who cares when 4.52 is so much worse at its fundamental task: SOUND EDITING. If you don't have 3.12 but have 3.11, I'm interested in 3.11 because it is listed as a bug-fixed version of 3.05. Well, we'll see. And for all I know, maybe it can do 24 or 32 bits too. I'm interested in 2.xx versions out of curiosity. I wonder if there are some things the oldest versions can do better. With NCH, newer certainly doesn't mean better... If you send an e-mail through this site it will go to my regular e-mail address (I don't want to list my e-mail here because I don't want it to show up on Google or anything). After you contact me we can exchange files. Thank you
  6. Thanks!!! It didn't work exactly as you said, because my computer just refused to even try to install the software (instead it opened an NCH page to get the new version of Wavepad). But then I right clicked on the uninstalled exe file, and chose "Troubleshoot compatibility". Then I clicked "Try recommended settings" and then "Start the program". It worked!!! Wavepad is young and athletic again!!!
  7. I just blasted NCH on the Wavepad forum because Wavepad 4.52 is crap for precision work compared to old Wavepad 3.05. I'm sorry to say that the new version of Mixpad, which you paid for, may well be just plain inferior to the older version you were using. With NCH, newer doesn't mean better, and from reading the Wavepad forum a bit it seems that NCH has almost zero customer service. Good luck.
  8. Thanks, but I don't have XP mode in my version of Windows 7. Too bad.
  9. Maybe NCH is understaffed and is having a hard time getting its act together. Some of the stupid changes that have happened to Wavepad could be sloppy programming from a burnt out programming team.
  10. I wrote another post a couple weeks ago about this. I've been forced to use Wavepad 4.52 for the past 2 weeks because 3.05 can't run on Windows 7 (and I don't have XP mode). Now I feel even more strongly about this. I can't believe NCH f-ed up Wavepad like this. It is such a shame. Things that are WORSE now: (1) On 4.52, Wavepad will usually only play the selected region ONCE, and then will jump back to the start of the file. WTF? (2) Wavepad will often not play the entire selected region when you want to listen to it. It often stops a little short of the end. WTF? (3) For some reason, after playing a little of the selected region, it plays a little chunk of the middle of the region. WTF? (4) The equalizer will no longer remember your settings, so if you want to try tweaking an equalizer setting, you have to set it from scratch *each time*. Why, why, why? Also, it seems that the equalizer is less easy to click and drag than before... It feels significantly less precise. (5) The equalizer automatically adjusts the volume after it equalizes, to keep the overall sound energy the same, I guess. Very undesirable if you're pasting together different sections with different equalizer settings, as *your ear* will perceive volume differences between the different sections. Maybe NCH decided to dumb down the equalizer at the expense of people who want to do serious sound editing. If they want to make a dumbed down version, they should make a separate product called "Wavepad Light" or "Wavepad Jr." or something, and not impair the functionality of Wavepad. (6) The amplify function no longer lets you type in a precise integer value. You can only choose a multiple of 4 now using a click-and-drag slider. Also, the amplify function takes time to make its adjustments now, whereas in 3.05 it was instantaneous. That's not a big problem with small song files, but it could be a problem if you're editing a long file, like a movie soundtrack. Version 3.05 was a serious editing tool which I loved. I wish NCH would bring it back and make it for Windows 7. Maybe they could call it "Wavepad Classic" and offer it as an alternative to the latest version. Or make Wavepad Classic an option that users can click on in the program, like how Yahoo Mail lets users switch back and forth between Yahoo Mail Classic and the new Yahoo Mail layout. Are you reading this, NCH?
  11. I've been using wavepad 3.05 for years. I LOVE it. Wavepad 3.12 had some stupid problems (constantly using Windows clipboard), so I just went back to 3.05. Well, I tried the latest version only because Windows 7 can't run 3.05. NCH messed up Wavepad!!! T.T The equalizer now amplifies your file to compensate for volume lost from equalizing. No thanks!!! Let me be in control of the volume, thank you. Also, the equalizer no longer remembers your settings, so you have to manually put them in each time you want to try an equalization. Why is it less functional now? Most annoyingly, Wavepad often only plays the selected region ONCE, and then often jumps back to the start of the file, so you have to click and scroll to get back to the selected region. How could NCH kill the agility of the program like that? Just so people can listen to other parts of the file without de-selecting the region? NOT WORTH IT. Oddly, Wavepad plays some little chunk of the selected region after it plays the selected region. I don't know who on Earth would want that. WHY DID THEY MESS UP WAVEPAD!! It's still better than clunky Audacity, but it was AWAESOME in version 3.05 (which was not updated for more than a year, as I recall). A couple functions didn't work perfectly, but it was so agile and overall it was awesome. Did NCH get new management since version 3.05? So disappointed... NCH, Please make version 3.05 for Windows 7. Please!!! Even the green waves looked cooler than the gray format you have now.
  12. First, I'll say I'm much more familiar with Wavepad than Mixpad, so maybe Mixpad can do more than I'm aware of. Anyway, Wavepad will do everything you need, and Mixpad will only do some of what you need. But Mixpad can be more convenient than Wavepad for mixing files that have already but cut to size, equalized, noise-reduced, etc. In Mixpad you can slide files' relative positions around and adjust volume levels and fades. But first you have to prepare your files in Wavepad. To convert tapes to digital, you will have to hook up a tape player to the line input of your computer (line in). Then hit the record button in Wavepad a couple times and play your tape player. Try recording to make sure the sound levels are proper and the correct input is being recorded (you can adjust the sound levels and inputs in Wavepad and Windows). If your tape player has line-level output jacks (line out), that might result in better quality, but if not, you can hook up to the headphone out jack of the tape player. After you've adjusted everything (this can take some time), rewind your tape and let Wavepad record it. After you've recorded a tape you will see the waves in Wavepad. You will probably want to use the amplify function in Wavepad to make them louder. Then you can try noise reduction and the equalizer to improve the sound of the tapes. Use Wavepad for editing each file you will want to include in the mix. Mixing can also be done in Wavepad (and done very precisely) using the "paste mix" function, but you can't re-arrange your mix as easily in Wavepad, and you have to create any independent fades before you paste files together. You can only re-arrange your mix by clicking 'undo' and pasting again. In Mixpad you can slide 2 or more files' relative positions around and can make independent fades and volume adjustments, but you can't do much other editing. As with any software, you'll have to play with the programs for a while to really understand them.
  13. When I am editing in Wavepad version 3.12, and I want to copy some stuff to paste, it saves the selection in Windows clipboard. That's OK for short selections, but for long selections Wavepad takes a long time to save, and this really slows down the editing process if you're doing a complex project with long files. Version 3.05 didn't do this and could copy and paste selections instantly. Is there any way to turn off this function? I loved Wavepad before because it was so agile as well as precise, but this function spoils the agility a bit. If there's no way to turn this function off, I really hope NCH eliminates it in future versions of Wavepad, and for now I'll go back to version 3.05.
