  1. I've happily been using my old Olympus software to play my DSS files. However, my equally old footpedal is about to die, so I thought I'd check back to see if ExpressScribe was updated to fix the DSS problem. I just downloaded the latest version and tried to play a DSS file. Now there is a message box that pops up and says that "the file format is not supported" and it deletes the DSS file. I guess NCH has given up on ever trying to address this issue. It is very misleading to continue to purport on the ExpressScribe information page that DSS is a supported file type when it clearly is not. Maybe one of these days I'll get to use ExpressScribe if I receive something other than DSS files... By the way, I also tried some of the other helpful hints added to this post, including the new codec file, but nothing worked. I'm not tech-savvy enough to try any of the more advanced solutions, so I give up.
  2. As far as requesting a different audio format, please be advised that as transcriptionists, we are at the mercy of whatever equipment is used for dictation. We have no control over the type of audio file received, which is why we would like to rely on ExpressScribe since it purports to support a wide range of formats. Unfortunately that is not the case and we must rely on other transcription software for DSS files. I would highly recommend NCH continue to address DSS file problems rather than simply dismiss them as they did in this forum post, since it is obvious that there is a ongoing problem judging by the persistent postings here concerning this.
  3. I did not buy the support service although they were kind enough to promptly respond to this problem when I emailed them. They tested my DSS files and found that they were able to upload and play them correctly. However, they were still unable to identify whatever it is that prevents ES from playing them on my end. I've tried every available solution posted on the boards here with no luck. I finally just gave up on ES for DSS and am using my old Olympus software program to transcribe DSS files.
  4. This is incorrect. ES cannot play my DSS files, which were sent to NCH for testing. The file was not corrupted in any way, and NCH was able to load/play it correctly. Since I am not the only user experiencing this problem, there must be some kind of ongoing issue with ES and DSS files even though the last version was supposed to have fixed it. I am continuing to rely on my Olympus software to transcribe my DSS files since they are proprietary to it anyhow.
  5. Did you remove your Olympus software prior to reinstalling ExpressScribe? If not, did you delete the voice files from the Olympus program? Thanks!
  6. I don't use Start/Stop, but I do have a similar program installed on my computer: Olympus Transcription Module. I know someone else who also uses the Olympus program and she has had no problems with Express Scribe on her computer.
  7. Just went through the above steps...to no avail. It still won't play DSS files.
  8. Unfortunately, I don't have that information. My doc tends to change recorders and I'm not sure which one he is using now. Tech support tested one of my DSS files and they were able to get it to play on their end. However, they've not yet been able to provide me the info on how to fix it for my ExpressScribe. I just emailed Mayukh per the message above regarding a possible solution for this. Hopefully there will be some good news soon!
  9. I'm new to ExpressScribe, and I've been trying for a week to get the program to play my DSS files. The files seem to download correctly but the duration is :00. I initially tried the new 4.17 version with no success. After reading about this same subject in a few recent posts, I found an older 4.05 version to download (along with the component patch). However, no luck there either. I've rebooted, installed, uninstalled, reinstalled, etc. (running Window XP Professional SP2). Is anyone else still having trouble with the DSS files? Any suggestions? Thanks!
