  1. We are receiving more 3ga files lately, any plans to support these? Thanks
  2. For some time now I have happily recommended Switch and other NCH products to clients who occassionally need to downsize a dictaphone recordings. But in recent(ish) times I noticed changes with regards a free and non-free version. I have searched extensively on the NCH site and can not find any clear information regarding this topic. It seems to me that now there is only a single version which is trial-ware. Could I please have some clarification as to how long this trial extends? Also I see that an additional mp3 license is offered on purchase, although it is possible to encode into mp3 while in this trial period. Please clarify these things for me. Thanks
  3. NCH surely you can suggest something? Switch is promoted on your website as working under wine.
  4. I've installed switch under wine in debian, however when I try and convert a wma file it crashes with a "Switch Sound File Converter has crashed because of an abnormal exception". Any advice please?
  5. I'm wondering how many others are experiencing this problem. I have come across a few instances where all the mp3 players I have (winamp, MPlayer, Foobar, Audacity etc) can play the full length of the audio file but Express Scribe can not. My belief is that technically this is not a problem with Express Scribe but rather the files are invalid or corrupt to a degree, Foobar for example ever estimates and mis-reports the length of the audio file, winamp changes its mind about the file length and re-evaluates. The only current solution which works "most" times is to open the file in Audacity and export it forcing a recode into a new file which Express Scribe can then read. I'm not a programmer but my assumption is that Express Scribe trusts the audio length reported in the file while other players don't take this as gospel and examine it internally, the later approach would appear to be the most robust. It would be great if ES could address this issue as its plagued me periodically for some time.
  6. DSS support certainly it extremely hit and miss. I have one person using Vista who I am trying to support, they upgraded from 4.10 to 4.19. All of a sudden no dss support. Tried everything suggested in these forums. Extremely annoying and appears there is no solution and little to no interest from NCH in resolving this. NCH how about a conclusive official statement on this issue please.
  7. This is also happening to my PC. DSS won't load but other file types will.
  8. Hi Thanks for your reply. It certainly isn't a HDD shortage problem. The solution each time has been to re-encode the file, sometimes even to a larger file size. If you like I would request permission from my clients to provide you with a copy of these faulty files in order you can debug what is happening. I also found that Switch Pro could not re-encode the file in a way that Express Scribe was happy (read the entire file) even though winamp always could. But if I used Audacity to recode then Express Scribe could read it. Let me know if you would like a copy of the files and how I can provide them to you privately. Thanks
  9. Hi, there is a previous thread dedicated to this bug here http://nch.invisionzone.com/index.php?show...amp;#entry17002 but I think its buried too deep since there has been no NCH staff commenting in it. I have again come across this problem this time with a 16bit MP3 file 1:35min recording, Express Scribe v4.16 only plays about 45 mins. Please can NCH acknowledge this issue and let us know the status, thank you.
  10. Hi guys, can you please let us know when you expect to be able to release a new version that deals with this bug? I just experienced it with an 2½ hour wma file which was converted to 16bit mp3 using NCH Switch. The mp3 once loaded into express scribe only plays for 1 hour 9mins. I opened the mp3 file in Audacity and resaved at the same bitrate using the Lame mp3 codec at 24bit constant stereo and suprise Express Scribe this time happily played the entire file? Please fix this soon
  11. Thanks for the warning nchto. We have experienced trouble with loading dvf files for several versions now, it appears to either work flawlessly or completely freezes the PC so you have to cold reboot (nasty). Also can you tell me how we can download older versions if needed and what version doesn't have trouble with dvf files? ps. Please encourage the developers to keep the changelog up to date, it is very helpful to us.
