Seperating or reducing background noise

I am currently using wavepad masters edition 5.95 although I could update to the free version if necessary.

 

I would like to know how to remove the televison shows such as what we are watching from our conversations or to seperate the two

of them. The television audio is much higher than our conversations.

Completely separating two sources is very difficult and in many cases basically impossible. You may be able to process the audio so that you can reduce the unwanted noise a bit, but this may also affect the audio you want to keep.

 

Can you give me a better idea of what you have recorded and how? In your OP, you say that the TV audio is much higher. Do you mean that the volume is much louder? What kind of TV audio is it?

Here is my situation, I just filed for divorce a few weeks ago.

My attorney told me to use a video cam in the living room to record the conversations my wife is having with my 11 year old son.

My wife has been known to lie to several people and has really been turning my son against me.

I have the video cam on a shelf above the televsion, it looks as if belongs with the cable box that I have.

So if the television is on while there is also conversation between my wife and son, I can hardly hear the conversation since the audio from televsion is much louder.

I would appreciate any help or recommendations on other software where I can seperate the different sounds or at least make the audio from the televsion alot

less louder.

The main problem with separating these two audio sources will be that they are potentially very similar in nature, and in addition, the TV source is actually in the foreground and a much louder signal.

 

I would say that your best bet would be to open WavePad's equalizer and see if you can isolate and boost the frequencies at which the background conversation is occurring. You will have to spend a fair bit of time experimenting. Looking at the spectral content of the conversation may also help (do this using WavePad's FFT tool).

 

Other than that I'm afraid I can't be much more help. It is a technically extremely difficult task, and I don't know of any other software which specialises in this type of thing.
