Rich Text creating a new line

how come when I use the Rich Text option, for example I created:

s1

to come back as

<Speaker 1>

it works correctly but inserts a line break, so it looks like:

<Speaker 1>

_

(where the cursor would be)

I need the cursor to be immediately after the text, and it slows me down to have to backspace up a line every time.

 

How do I get it to not do this?
