Maximum MP3 length loading is 7:51.280? Any help?

Sup everone,

I've been a Wavepad user for nearly 10 years and never hit this issue before. Like most I edit all my new MP3 files, trimming that dead air most producers seem to leave at the start & end of each music file, basically so they can load on cue point in my CDJ's.

I ran into an issue with a certain MP3 file that crashed on me the other evening, wiping out the entire folder contents of finished MP3's, I was luckily they were only copies MP3's with the originals on a different drive. That in itself was a shock, but since that issue happened, any MP3 file that I now load up (they are all 320 & CBR's incidently) will only load a maximun length of 7;51.280.

Any shorter files than 7;51.280 is fine, but I have to convert all files that are longer (currently to either a wav or flac) in order to edit the file.

I'm running the latest edition which i downloaded this evening (V 6.31), I only recently upgraded a couple of months back from V 6.24.

Can anyone help me here?

Hi, First, I checked and the latest version for Wavepad is 6.33 for Windows and 6.30 for Mac. Also, I have checked loading MP3 files, the test file is 38 minutes long and 90.845KB, saved it as 320 CBR as well and it opens with no issues.

What you mentioned that after you opened that certain mp3 file crashed and wiped the whole folder, that is really not normal at all, have you checked your computer for viruses? If the issue is not happening with all the mp3 files then the issue may be with the file itself.

Hi Chris,

Yes sorry I meant version 6.33, that was a typo by me.

Firstly the crash occurred on an old MP3 file, having checked the original file it was actually a VBR file with a stated value of 199kbps. Oddly It's the only VBR file I have showing on my entire music drive. Why it crashed, again i don't know why it would clear the entire folder. I did indeed run a virus check on my entire PC following the crash and it showed it was clean.

I have now tried various MP3 files with every file that has a length 7 minutes, 51.280 seconds or over, loading part of the file to a maximum length of 7:51.280. I have checked and looked at every option through out the software and I'm totally baffled on what to do next.

Any suggestions anyone?

Hi Twync,

That's a very strange problem. Let's see if we can get to the bottom of what is happening...

1. If you open the mp3 files in Windows Media Player (or similar) do they show the correct length and play properly?

2. How much space do you have available on your computer's hard drive?

3. Could you please provide a link to one of your mp3 files which has this problem so that I can see if something is wrong with the file? You can either post it on a cloud service like Dropbox or PM me and I will give you details on how to email me.

Regards,

Ben

Hi Ben,

Thank you for responding, yes it is a strange one. I spent 2 evenings just scanning the forum to see if my issue had occurred previously with other users prior to posting up. I didn't find any.

1. Yes, the files play perfectly in both Windows Media player and Winamp Player. Eash file shows the correct full length of each track.

2. The C drive currently has 99.6 GB available (out of 232 GB), my D Drive which is my new storage of music has 56.8 GB (out of 232 GB) and finally my k drive has 236 GB (out of 372 GB) available. I have tried playing random files from each drive without any problems, then the same files were then loaded up into wavepad and still only loading up to a maximum lenght of 7:51.280. The files were both tried ticked Read Only and unticked.

The same files were then converted using NCH Switch (I have tried a variety of formats including Wav & Flac), each loading fully and the file sizes in most cases being larger than the MP3 format. For example, I'll call it Track #1, the length is 8:52 mins., as a 320kbps MP3 file it is 20.3MB, as a Wav file it is 89.6MB, but the larger file loads up fully. I then converted the same wav file back to an MP3 but as a 128kbps file with a size this time of 8.13MB and again only a part loaded.

The issue therefore isn't file size related, but the something to do with the MP3 format. This was why I downloaded the up-to-date version in case the original crash that happened, might have affected the MP3 algorithm in my older version.

I will pm you with my email, I use both We Transfer & Dropbox. At the moment I'm converting longer files to wav format prior to editing but I'm hoping for a solution. I wonder would deleting the complete programme and then reloading make a difference? I wasn't sure if the Registration code sent upon purchase would still be active? Otherwise paying for software again and finding the same fault occuring would be hard to swallow :(

Regards

Problem solved guys :) after instruction from Ben on clearing Wavepad's cache, the problem has gone away. Once again files longer that 7:51 mins are loading fully.

Again many thanks Ben & Chris 75 for the response, totally appreciated the support guys.

Guru, could you post how to clear the cache for all of us? I am having a similar problem with my WavePad only loading 44.396 seconds of audio no matter how long the file.

I have tried with various files and all load 44.396 sec of music files and 40.789 sec of audio files which I created with WavePad.

Hi everyone,

Here are instructions on how to clear your WavePad cache. As a note, this issue has been fixed and the latest version of WavePad will not create the issue. However, upgrading to the new version may not fix the issue if you are already experiencing the issue, in which case you will still need to follow these instructions.

1. Save your work and close WavePad

2. Navigate to the following directory: C:\Users\[YOUR USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\NCH Software\WavePad

3. Delete any files which have any of the following file extensions: (.grf, .aud, .mp3, .nchmp3)

The problem should now be fixed.

Regards,

Ben
