16:9 clips understood as 4:3

On one project, I add HDV clips (1440x1080, PAR=1.3333)

I have the following issues:

- all the clips are seen as 4:3 in clip preview with a PAR=1 (with tranparency on right and left sides)

- in project preview, top and bottom of the image have black strips!!

[Edit : make above sentence "understandable"]

any clue?

If possible, put one of those clips on a server and link it here, so folks can check it out.

As you may have guessed, B) this topic also relates to the other one "Apply effects to several clips"

because of the issue discussed here, I'll have to apply the resize(4:3 -> 19:9) effect to all clips in the timeline

and I'll "only" have 2935(*) initial rushes for this film!!! :)<_<:o !!

(*) not excluding some where i shot my shoes :D

Hi Lupusbalo,

Just confirmed VideoPad currently doesn't handle PAR comes with the video.

I've filed a proposal to our team including:

  1. Handle PAR from the metadata, stretch the video accordingly.
  2. Allow change aspect ratio of the clip without adding an effect.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

I have the same issue all the time with 16:9 images from my digital video camera previewing as 4:3, and appearing letterboxed in the preview window.

Fortunately they render in 16:9 when exporting, but it sure is annoying that the preview isn't accurate.

Any chance of a fix soon?

Thanks,

Graham

It appears only in the preview as 4: 3.

If you do export, then everything will be as it should: 16: 9

Ie cropping exclusively in the preview window. And it's not even trim. Viewer Window simply undisplayable edge of the image, but in reality it is exported and normally at a ratio of 16: 9

This is the result of the export file that I inserted in the last report

1.6mb

This problem does not occur on all files, 16: 9. Video shot on the iPhone 5s is displayed as 16: 9 and in the preview window and in exports. 100% OK.

But video from the Sony NEX have a problem. 16:9 as fact. 4:3 in preview, and 16:9 after export :(
