using Switch to convert DVD (.vob) to MP3?

Hi everyone,

I'm a newbie at this. I want to use Switch to convert the audio from a DVD movie (.vob files) to MP3. I think it's a question of "which .v0b files contain the movie?" Or it may be that Switch is not the software to do this.

I used DVD Shrink to rip the DVD to a folder on my hard drive. Then, in Switch (v.4.52) I selected the largest vob files, figuring that they were the movie. But when I listened to the MP3s, there was nothing but silence. When I selected some of the other smaller files, I got the audio, but it was mostly the other stuff on the DVD, like the previews and such. One of the files, the very last one (VTS_15_1.vob), had a section of the movie.

Or do I have to convert the VOB files to another video format first, and then convert that video format to MP3?

I'm working as a volunteer for a musical theatre company. We want to use the audio from a DVD of the musical to rehearse the musical numbers with the cast. The CD version of certain songs is different than the musical score, so we need the music from the DVD version of the musical.

Thanks!

If you have the patience and determination, you can use SoundTap to record the audio (in real time.) I once did this to make an audio cd of the musical selections from a dvd of a school production.

I don't know, but there may well be copyright concerns in your case.

Yes, I read about this in another thread. Thank you for alerting me to that option. And yes, I have a feeling that there are copyright issues preventing me from doing this with a commercial DVD. I'm going to do some more research.

Thanks again!
