  1. Hi moeron, Great! That is exactly what I need, so thankyou for that! I will look into this issue very shortly. Regards, Ben
  2. Hi vbphelps, Saving your work as an mp3 and then returning to edit it later is not a good workflow and will result in the quality of your file decreasing every time you save it - this may be the cause of the problem you are describing. You should always try to store your original files in a lossless format like FLAC or wav. Here is an example of what I believe to be a good workflow: 1. Make a recording the same way you are doing now. 2. Save your recording as myrec.wav 3. Make any edits you want on the file 4. Save your edited file as myrec_1.wav 5. Now save an mp3 version so you have your recording in a small useful format --> myrec_1.mp3 Now, let's say you decide you need to make some changes to the recording: 1. Open the file myrec_1.wav 2. Make your changes 3. Save the file as myrec_2.wav 4. Now make an mp3 version --> myrec_2.mp3 With this workflow, your mp3 files will always have consistent quality compared with each other and you will also have some historical back-ups you can use if you need. Regards, Ben
  3. Hi DavidDWM, It depends a bit on how compressed the file already is, but the best way to tell would be to try. SImply open the file in WavePad and then select "Save As..." from the File menu. Then choose to save your file as an mp3 and choose one of the lower bitrate options. You may need to experiment a little bit to find the right setting. Please note, that doing this will reduce the quality of the file, so make sure you save the original in safe location. Regards, Ben
  4. Hi Rabco, I can confirm that this is a problem. I've asked for a fix to be applied immediately and we should have a new version within the next week or two. Thanks so much for bringing this to our attention Regards, Ben
  5. Hi Rabco, I'm going to get one of our Mac guys to look into this for you ASAP. It certainly sounds like a bug. If so, hopefully we can get a fix out quickly for you. Regards, Ben
  6. Hi VMW, Unfortunately the process of noise reduction is not perfect and some degradation to the overall signal is unavoidable. It is a case of experimenting with your recording until you find a good compromise between reduced background noise and the clarity of your vocals. One idea for you is if the hum you are talking about is a very predictable frequency, such as a power supply hum or other types of line noise, then you may be able to apply a notch filter to your recording with less damage to your overall signal. Regards, Ben
  7. Hi KJS, Where did you get a version of Debut which requires stdriver64.sys? Debut should use a driver called debutfilterx64.sys. stdriver should only exist on a system running SoundTap. Regards, Ben
  8. Hi, Could you give us a bit more info on exactly how you are saving and then trying to load your project? Does this happen for every project you create? Regards, Ben
  9. Hi Kev, From the link it looks like you're providing a direct link to the mp3 file. This is not the best way to configure BroadWave and I am guessing is the cause of your problem. Generally speaking, the best method is to supply the link generated by BroadWave. If you click on the "Connect" button, BroadWave should generate you a webpage with various links configured for different purposes (streaming live, stream pre-recorded etc). In most cases these links will provide a stream in the format of an m3u playlist. By choosing this method, BroadWave can then stream the correct format to whatever device connects to it based on the capabilities of that device. Please let me know if this works for you. Regards, Ben
  10. Hi Kev, Thanks for the report. I haven't heard of this issue before. I will get someone to look into it and get back to you. Regards, Ben
  11. Hi there, There are a number reasons it may have failed, but I would need to see the original mp3 to more closely analyze it. Would you mind sending me a PM and I will arrange to get the file from you via email or link? Regards, Ben
  12. Hi there, Your understanding of how it should work is basically correct. Would you mind sending me a PM with a link to your file? It is possible that there is a bug, but I will need to look at the source file to confirm it. Thanks for your help! Regards, Ben
  13. Hi there, Can you give a little bit of detail about what you are seeing on the SoundTap log window? Are there any error messages? Does SoundTap mention that it is receiving a stream? If you can also describe exactly what you are trying to record then I can give you a step by step guide on how to get it working. Regards, Ben
  14. No problems at all. Glad I was able to help you
  15. Hi, Firstly, please note that this is quite an old thread (started more than 2 years ago). Secondly, Switch *does* support normalization. However, you will not notice much change if your audio files are already similar in volume or if they have a high dynamic range. Regards, Ben
  16. Hi kw, In the term "Dynamic Range Compression", the compression refers to the volume range of the audio you are editing. It is used to bring the loudest parts and the quietest parts closer together thereby reducing (compressing) the dynamic range of the audio. This means that running a DRC can reduce the output of the loud parts of your audio and boost the quiet parts. I highly recommend reading through the link that Alex posted to Wikipedia's explanation on the subject. Exactly what happens when you apply a compressor depends on two main things. First of all, the settings you are using in the compressor and secondly, the audio signal you are compressing. If you open the DRC in WavePad and click the "Default" button, you should see that the DRC curve is just a diagonal line running from bottom left to top right. Applying this curve should have no effect on an audio signal. The reason for this is that the "dB in" value (horizontal axis) and the "dB out" value (vertical axis) are identical at all points on the curve. Knowing this, you can now target exactly how you want to compress the range. You may wish to boost the bottom and cut the top or just one or the other. I hope this makes sense. If you need further explanation then please let me know. Maybe include a screenshot of your DRC curve? Regards, Ben
  17. Hi there, The "Export" button is disabled because you have not yet chosen an output path for your exported file. Click on the "Choose Export File..." button to choose a location to save your exported video. Regards, Ben
  18. Hi there, If you are just wanting to back-up the Golden Records software, then you can get a copy of the original setup file from your local drive. C:\Program Files (x86)\NCH Software\Golden\goldensetup_v2.08.exe Regards, Ben
  19. Hi there, Ok, so you need to: 1. Go to the "Mixing" tab and click the "Export To Video" button. 2. Choose which video you want to place the audio with using the "Choose Video File..." button. 3. Select the audio format you want using the drop down list next to the "Choose Export File..." button. This list contains .wmv as an option. Regards, Ben
  20. Hi there, Could you give a little bit more detail on your workflow? Try to be as specific as possible about the order in which you are doing things, what you are doing and what file formats you are using. For example, when you say "taking out breaths" how exactly are you doing that? Are you performing all of your edits on a lossless file format like .wav or are you editing an mp3? If you are making edits to an mp3 file, then everytime you save the file and reopen it, you are recompressing the file and this will definitely result in a loss of quality. Regards, Ben
  21. Hi Sharon, What was the name of the software you used for recording these m4a files? m4a is one of the formats that iTunes promotes very strongly, so it is extremely unusual for iTunes to not be able to play an m4a file. I suspect the files you have are either corrupt or using a very unusual codec. It's possible that the software you used to create them didn't do a very good job! Regards, Ben
  22. Hi Green and Richard, First of all, the issue you raised, Green, sounds like a bug. I'll check it out. But I'm glad you found that the right click works Richard, have you made sure that a clip is selected properly when you right click on it? The window frame of the clip should be dark blue when it is selected. Regards, Ben
  23. Hi Guys, When you add an effect in MixPad, you are adding the effect to the entire track. The clips themselves are not actually changed, rather they are fed through the track's effect chain when you playback or mix down. This allows you to keep making adjustments to your effect parameters without having to constantly reapply the changes and thereby degrade your original recordings. If you want to raise the volume of just one clip then I would suggest using the volume envelope. Again, this will keep your original recording in tact, but still get the amplification you are looking for. If you still need to apply a permanent amplification (or any other effect), then you can right click the track and select "Edit Clip...". This will open the clip in WavePad and you will have access to a vast array of filters and effects you can use to alter the clip. When you save your result, you are saving the changes to that clip permanently, so if you may need to go back to the old clip then it is better to make a copy first! Hope this helps you guys get where you need to go! Regards, Ben
  24. Hi Robin, To do this you will need to open the file in WavePad and use the Fade In/Out tool from the editing menu. You can open a recording for editing in WavePad from the Find and Play dialog in SoundTap. Regards, Ben
  25. Hi moeron, For the vast majority of users, SoundTap works without any troubles, but we are always trying to fix any known issues. If you look a few posts above (from the 30th April) you will see I have asked anyone having troubles to please provide me with some additional information. If you could supply this then I will have a much better chance of being able to track down this problem and fix it. Regards, Ben
